Back when I played you wouldn't ever see a bat flip or anything done for a batter to draw attention to himself because he would 'get one in the ear' even it had to carry over into the next year to get him.

If you throw at someone's head for celebrating a home run, you're a piece of ****. A pitch to the ribs is acceptable, if you're that butt hurt about it. Happy the unwritten rules are going by the wayside.

It kept players acting like gentlemen unlike the video game playing 'all about me' generation. Of course, back then, it was all about team. Not now ...its draw attention to the individual.

Myself I would rather strike them out more than hit him. Now a days with 100 mph balls being thrown do not want the game to go that way anymore. Strike them out and tell him to sit his ask down.

I don't have a problem with either side of this argument. If pitchers are going to gesture and fist pump, then the batters get to bat flip. The unwritten rules will settle anything that's over the line. But one of my favorite stories to tell on my oldest son is when he was brought in to throw at a guy that had showed out after a home run. The kid pitching got the sign from the dugout (the ole middle finger) and he shook it off. Coach called time, took him out and put my kid in. Coach says 'do you know all the signs?' Yes sir! First pitch was a 2 seamer in the ribs. And nobody got tossed......

Sooooooooo….this topic is now everywhere on VN, most notably in the NCAA forum where the #1 QB in the country is bypassing his senior year of HS to go to OSU DUE to NIL.

1. Do y’all have a problem with it?

2. Did any of you buy the Gilbert Tee?

I think this has the potential to be bigger for the non revenue sports than the others, what do you guys think?

I think it will ruin college sports to some extent and we are working hard on stuff for Kirby. You have guys like the QB at Alabama who is getting almost $1 million for posting on social media after a game that they are hoping he starts in. The big name guys in football/basketball will get the big deals that no one can now dictate so guys are in essence going to get paid to play however many millions a fan is willing to give them. The smaller guys will not see anything significant. We are working on t-shirt deals and smaller things unless something big comes along. But when you talk clothing deals for the average player you are talking maybe a few $1,000 a year if you do it yourself. If you use a company, it is usually 7% of the profit which means if they make 10 dollars on a shirt you get .70. Takes a lot of those to amount to much. You can go the social media way but it takes a lot of posts to get interest enough to get to 1,000,000 followers to get paid. And you have to do some stupid stuff or show a lot of skin to get that many followers. The only non-revenue guys will be the big names. I think Rocker will come back just for the NIL or get his contract as a pro player. But those guys are few and far between. But if anybody needs a spokesperson, especially for a mustache or hair products, I've got your guy. :)

Please Kirby, don't do stupid stuff and show skin..........

NIL in its current form will ruin college athletics and as the saying goes, "the Rich get Richer and the Poor get Poorer". Very few athletes will ever make more than extra spending money, which I'm all for the kids getting extra spending money.

We've not picked up a BFK shirt. I'd be happy to support our student athletes, but it's not like we'll run out and grab every piece of merchandise (case and point, JG is selling shirts: JG Merchandise). We have seen a couple BFK shirts whilst out and about around town. My son saw a kid wearing one at camp and used it as an opportunity to brag about having been at the game.

I don't think this will ruin college athletics although there will be an adjustment period. If most athletes won't be affected that much, then I don't see how you can say that. Think you have to do this; you can't have the parasites of college sports making huge bank while the kids who we come to see can't even use their name. Athletes should have the right to pursue these opportunities. (disclaimer: can't dismiss the value of education to those on scholarship, though, good friend of mine in HS was backup qb at Syracuse (would've been a starter if not for Donovan McNabb), parlayed his degree into medical school and is now a top surgeon (tangent within disclaimer: that guy's uncle gave up home run #715 to Hank Aaron)).

Preacherman's comment about "showing skin" did give rise to a scary thought in my mind, involving student athletes showing up at tawdry clubs and such to make some extra cash. Yikes!

Yeah, so this is where I am at…I asked a question and I got a response…

A one and done basketball player is not gonna get it. Sure, we might get ‘em on campus that way but did Tobias Harris or more recently, Keon Johnson do what it takes with NIL to get to where Fulkerson is? No. How about Pons?

Monica Abbott, when she was here? Some players “potential for profit” will never be greater than while on campus!

I am under no illusion, it will be exploited in recruiting, but…but…if the kids benefit from their own ideas, and this school can help them, just do it!!!

I did buy a Gilbert Tee, it’s two color, it’s gotta be packaged and shipped, hopefully it’s in his deal (the fulfillment of the order) and he’s doing about $ 10 a shirt…if that money goes to him, I dig it! He ain’t gonna get rich off it unless he continues to produce bat flips at the MLB level. Or…he, ahem licensed it for an up front fee…lol, isn’t that why you go to college?

Copy right?

Thanks for the replies, we’re no different here, just trying to figure it out!

LegoooooooooooooBIGORANGE!!!

Let me put it another way. I bought the shirt for the kid. If it fits him, I‘ll know what size to buy myself. I’d rather pay the players than take part in buying out another coach. But…that’s JMO.

AND…it’s baseball!

That is about the sum of the parts there, but Kirby could sell me a five dollar tooth pick right now…and…if right now pays in some small part for grad school, I am down! X 11.7…

It’s a simple formula. I appreciate ya!

GBO!!!

My daughter texted me about Drew’s BFK shirt as soon as it was out so I ordered her one and I got one for myself. I also bought a never quit shirt. NIL will benefit the universities near large MSAs or those with the largest fan bases the most. The Bama QB making $1m without ever playing a down is just an example of the rich getting richer.

The officially licensed (overpriced) toothpick is an interesting idea. If we're being real, why not just have a page where fans can make contributions if they enjoy that athlete's play? Maybe the player could say that they would think positive thoughts about each contributor in return.

Another interesting opportunity is the app where fans can purchase personalized video greetings that are sent within 24 hours or so. I believe Fulky and some other UT athletes are on there now, but don't recall the details.

Agreed, and since Tennessee has a large and passionate fan base, might as well use it to our advantage

We are working on shirts now. Just trying to find the best deal where we don't have to touch them. He has a meeting this weekend with a distributor but if anyone knows someone who does good shirts and would be willing to distribute them also, let me know.

https://www.fulfillmentmerch.com/

Hit up their contact link, I’m not positive they make shirts but the can do fulfillment. For shirts, Grand Palace Silkscreen

Gilbert used BreakingT at least for fulfillment and they e-mailed me from order to delivery.

Good Luck!!!
