I have a question about the Grand Slam against Wright State. Where was Coach running to? He had some gas in those feet.

Cool to relive that moment and find myself in the stands right as it happened. Drew's little sister can be seen from 1:07 to 1:09 on the twitter video capture - she is in the upper deck 4 rows up - aisle seat - hat on backwards - Tennessee number 1 giant orange hand waving - Lindsey Nelson was
on fire.

No thanks. Fine young man and an excellent ball player, but I'm not a fan of the bat flip. Get you ear-holed back in my day.
I hear you but it’s a new era fueled by MLB’s “let the kids play”. Tiger showed emotion is okay in golf. It should be okay in college baseball—especially with a walkoff Grand Slam in the Regionals. The stoic baseball of my youth isnt going to grow the game with the new generations IMHO.

One of the best moments I have ever experienced in sports. Out of the clamping down jaws of defeat, instantaneous victory followed by complete jubilation. I can put a few cents in Drew’s pocket legally, so I will.
Agreed. It was a moment this Vol fan will always remember. Unfortunately, I wasn’t there in person but was glued to ESPN3 and was at LNS the next day vs Liberty. Witnessed Fergie’s walkoff HR vs Ark which I’ll add to the list of memorable Vol moments. This team provided many of those.

You nailed it. I’m 27 years old and I love it. I also have no problem with dudes getting thrown at if they take it way overboard. Play the game with passion.

So the question in my set of friends was, if we had played Wright State again would they have been justified hitting Drew on first pitch? This goes to the old school guys especially. It is not pointed at Drew but at where baseball used to be. It is interesting because I think the old school guys say you can keep a grudge for a long time.

Oh, in my mind, if I'm at Wright State, Drew's first at bat would be nothing but high and tight gas. The pitch signal from the pitching coach is THUMBS UP!!

I get both sides. I’m old school, but I’m warming to letting them celebrate. I don’t like gesturing towards the opponent, but turn it loose and have fun. Drew needs a Homer Daddy shirt.

Been watching baseball for over 40 years and the ‘old school’ rules always annoyed me. Can’t look at the pitcher, have to run full speed around the bases. If you give up a homerun and the other team celebrates, just deal with it. That said, Drew was pretty over the top, so I was happy it was my team!

I don’t mind pitchers throwing at batters, as long as it’s not at the head/neck area. Every player knows it’s a part of the game growing up. Whenever I was playing I would just roll with the pitch and I never got hit by a pitch that left anything more than a bruise. Anyone who’s played knows how to take a bean ball. Just take it, get your free base, steal 2nd base, and score on a base hit. I’ll take getting hit every day if it gives my team an advantage in winning the game. Throwing at batters only puts your team at a disadvantage. That’s the way I look at it. The only time I was truly upset was whenever I got hit in the ear hole and it was scary but I was fine because the helmet did it’s job. We didn’t have those jaw protectors like they do now.

This is pretty much where I am at, throwing at the head is a chump move and if it’s unsuccessful the hitter has every right to, ahem…take to the mound.

If you show up the pitcher, in the middle of the game, you get what’s coming to you, a 9th inning, bat flip walk off in the ninth, in college baseball…why not?

I’m an old school Braves fan from the Dale Murphy/Bob Horner era. In my opinion, Drew gets a pass considering it was a Grand Slam walkoff during the Regionals. If it was in the middle of the game, he should be prepared to take his medicine. I personally love his swagger and flair for the dramatic. MLB shouldn‘t try to tame Acura or Tatis, and college baseball should encourage personalities to shine (within reason) and help grow the game and their brand.
More importantly, my daughter took my Kirby shirt that your son gave us 😀, so where can I buy one now that NIL is in place? Perhaps a “fear the stache” version would be a hot seller?

We are working on several that should be available in a couple of weeks. It doesn't help that the face is struggling hard in Belize with VolLeaders. He will fly back in tomorrow and we will begin to sit down and figure out what all we are going to do. We have some ideas for shirts, caps but are also working on some deals so if you know someone wanting a spokesperson for mustache wax, or pretty much anything else within reason I have your guy. :)
I think the July 1 caught everyone off guard and UT will catch up with the classes they have planned in the fall to help these guys understand fully the rules which are somewhat different for each school and state right now. We have a family friend who does this stuff for a living so we are working on a conversation with him later in the week.

@preacherman20 , hope you're son had a good time on the VolLeaders Belize trip! Looks like a great group of Vol student athletes.

Thanks for keeping us posted on any potential NIL deals with your son.

i bet he had a blast in Belize. Guess then it’s back to summer league ball. Good to hear that you have a trusted advisor to help make “heads or tails“ of the NIL Since the NCAA didn’t get their wish for federal legislation, I heard they essentially rescinded their rules regarding NIL so that all states will be under the same rules. Assume that most schools will prohibit the typical sin products like alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, vaping, adult entertainment, etc. wonder if they will also prohibit competitors to any of their flagship sponsors like Nike. Anyway, it should be interesting but looking forward to supporting our athletes who represent the university in a positive manner.

I'm interested to see if a player gets an endorsement that is contradictory to the team's endorsement how it is handled. I have not seen any individual endorsements of equipment but you know it is coming and what will the school do.

I read somewhere that schools would be allowed to limit anything that conflicted with school contract or policy.

I saw where BYU restricted it's students from deals with alcohol, tobacco and caffeine products.

BYU: NIL policies must adhere to honor code

would be pretty awesome for an 18-year old college athlete to sign a deal with bud or corona
