Ya I'm sure they do. However is a different demographic, and that's all they have. They don't have the tradition, championships, all Americans, NFL players and hall of famers that we have. They also still do not recruit at a high level compared to many of the traditional power houses. It's a gimmick and Tennessee is way better than gimmicks. It is not needed. I am disappointed that jones and the team let this happen.
It's just a little gimmicky, but I have learned to accept gimmicks over the past few years. Seems like it would be simple to appease the entire fanbase by keeping the traditional uniforms traditional and throwing all the gimmicks into the alternate.
Well alienating the women's teams by ruining their brand is silly. The women's basketball team has been immensely more successful all time than any men's team....
Alienating the women's teams (of all sports) by giving them separate team names is much worse. From Day 1 they always should have been Volunteers without having a separate designation because they were women. The separate name carries an implied patronizing and diminishing connotation, as if it's something inferior to the "real" sports programs the men have.
The consistent, longterm excellence that Pat built stands as a big FU to that sort of thinking, which is why the Lady Vols name got consideration as the last holdout against school-wide brand unification. But that ultimately has to be temporary in the bigger picture, so even if it's currently being driven by marketing, I'm all for it.
Cracks me up when people say they hate Bama so much then say "well Bama doesn't do this and Bama doesn't have alternates!" since when did we start caring so much about Alabama and want to be like them? Other than their recent success I want to share 0 qualities with them.
I actually always viewed it as they were proud and more prideful to be "Lady Vols"....there's something elegant about it to me.

If it was sustainable on it's own? Maybe...it's not. Lady Vol programs don't generate enough on their own, so sacrifice elegant for practical. Every year they'll be more and more fine with it. Current and incoming Lady Vols will love the gear and embrace being equal VOLS with football players.
Yea but here's the thing....they're not "equal". You said it yourself. They don't generate enough money on their own. The football team obviously funds (or helps fund) the Lady Vols, which obviously makes them seem inferior. If they want to buy into that and feel better about it by calling themselves the "Lady Vols" well hey, more power to them. I support the "Lady Vols" name and believe they should have the right to keep it. Honestly, the current players should be the ones to make the decision.
