Niedermeyer on Chaney

I was really excited to get him. He got under my skin while he was here the first time with some of the play calling but overall he was solid then. I feel like he’s learned a lot since his first tenure. He was a great hire and honestly, a safe hire. You don’t get that combination very often.

He put together one of the most prolific offenses in school history, and his play calling got under your skin??? Smdh

this. i think chaney probably has a lot more freedom to scheme around weaknesses than helton did....i expect that there's a plan to work around the O line issues....
There are ways to scheme around offensive deficiencies. Cutcliffe for instance, during his one-year back, was able to scheme around the fact that his quarterback was almost unable to throw beyond the scrimmage line because of his broken pinky.

Inside zone, outside sweep, and 5 yard out route was Heltons entire playbook

He threw it deep more than most, but yes we ran wayyy too much. Running that much with the worst run offense in the confernece was plain stubborn.

You mean in that ONE of his 4 years? That was the only year we scored above 30 PPG. Hell, people got frustrated with Deboard's offenses that broke school records and put up over 35 ppg in consecutive years. People will get frustrated by anything, but about half of Chaney's tenure was pretty bad, so I can get that sentiment.

He was a safe, conservative hire. Hopefully he can hold up with Pruitt's defense and we can steadily improve as a team. But if we are "on the brink" in a couple years I won't be surprised if Pruitt pulls the trigger and goes for a dynamic, high scoring playcaller to get us over the hump.

I wasn’t aware I wasn’t allowed to be aggravated with inconsistent play calling. Sue me. You literally pick the one somewhat negative statement I had in that comment to make your argument with lol “SMDH”

If given a gold brick some posters on this sight would complain about how heavy it is..

Maybe the rest of my comment went over your head, I’m in no way complaining about the hire of Chaney. You should work on your reading comprehension. I’m extremely happy that Pruitt went out and hired Chaney. I said as much in the last post. How you took that is on you and you’re dead wrong. I feel pretty certain I’m not the only person on this board that felt like that during his first tenure either.

“He got under my skin the first time he was here”.
Sure sounds like a complaint to me.

Followed by “but overall he was solid” and nothing but praise for him the rest of the post. Great job at making that out to mean something it definitely did not.

Some of our best offenses were coordinated by OC’s with past OL experience. Starting with Fulmer himself, then Chaney, then DeBord and now Chaney again. That melding of the OL with the rest of the offensive unit has produced heavy yardage in the past and hopefully again.

Indeed!
