"We were so fortunate to get him. We flat-out stole him. Great guy, great coach, great teacher. That man can coach any offense in the game. That’s how versatile and how smart he is." -- Rucker

I'm pretty excited to see what Chaney can do with our offense. He's a big upgrade. It will be interesting to see how much of a step forward this offense can take under his leadership.

The talk of Chaney being able to scheme to the players he has to work with, gives me slight hope for a decent season.
That and S&C improvements.

Some of our best offenses were coordinated by OC’s with past OL experience. Starting with Fulmer himself, then Chaney, then DeBord and now Chaney again. That melding of the OL with the rest of the offensive unit has produced heavy yardage in the past and hopefully again.

I believe Cut played OL in HS as well

I was really excited to get him. He got under my skin while he was here the first time with some of the play calling but overall he was solid then. I feel like he’s learned a lot since his first tenure. He was a great hire and honestly, a safe hire. You don’t get that combination very often.

To get Chaney, especially at that point in the coaching search, was huge. If I remember correctly, it was approaching a month when we got him, and could have gone much longer or we could have settled for another unknown coach. Chaney is a proven SEC OC and I think can stabilize our offense.

If what you have is family cars, it will be hard to make them preform like drag racers. It is taking a complete overhaul, not something to be accomplished over night and be ready for the next round of races.

Remember the movie shot of the little bear roaring and running off the cougar (I think) and the camera then panning to show the BIG bear behind the little guy? Coach P getting Chaney reminds me of that scene. Coach P being the little guy and AD Fulmer the big guy. If it were me, knowing Fulmer is the big boss, would give me comfort. The birds of a feather thing.

If we had any resemblance of a defense in 2012, I honestly believe we would've played in Atlanta twice that year. Chaney had that offense rolling.
Agree. As best I can recall, that offense that year was statistically the highest scoring offense in UT history; unfortunately, it came at the same time as the statistically worst defense in UT history (at the time—not sure if we have statistically been worse on defense than that year since then, but it sure has felt like it at times.).

Can’t win championships without defense. I’m still on the cautious side with our team because of my BVS, but I have reasons (as many of us do and should) to be very positive about the future, Chaney being just one of them.

this. i think chaney probably has a lot more freedom to scheme around weaknesses than helton did....i expect that there's a plan to work around the O line issues....

Yep. I believe even the spring game showed we will focus on quick, short passes, which will obviously help. If they find enough run schemes and a lineup that can accomplish making the run at least "a threat", we should see improvement.
From a Chaney interview, he mentioned searching for sweeps etc; anything that made the run game a factor also.

Just nice to see/hear issues that even us fans could recognize, being addressed.

I really do believe Chaney's system is 'whatever our current guys are good enough at to get down the field'
Which is my favorite system$

Wouldn't have won the East, but would have been a 8-9 win team and Dooley would have kept his job for at least one more year, to be sure.

As big as some of the numbers were that Bray put up, he didn't really do anything against a good defense that was worth a damn and pretty frequently was a turnover machine against good teams. He did score a ton of points against a Georgia defense in 2012 that was pretty good, and if the defense was just OK that would have been a huge upset, but that's it. He also threw 3 picks in that game and completed just over half his passes.

I am pretty excited as well. However, an early "litmus test" is what level Georgeah drops too without his involvement. That is also a test of "value-add" in my opinion. I realize that talent can make up some of that difference....but with the regular season + bowl....the statistics will start to reveal any loss (if there is one).
