Nico really screwed us

I’m not sure if Heupel would have been bothered enough to try and land him. Listening to Basilio today and yesterday was depressing. Flat footed. That describes Heupel to a T. Waits for things to happen. No real planning.

It’s depressing to watch something you love (Tennessee football) becoming an object lesson in laziness and complacency.
NO! Whats depressing is that we went seemingly forever with coaches that couldn't coach and recruiting that was mid level sun belt range. I don't want to go back to 5 win seasons. You do remember our teams loaded with 2 and 3 star talent don't you? We are miles ahead of that now.

I am so humored by the fact that any negative post on Heupel is attacked viciously, but meanwhile he does absolutely nothing to dispell the perception that he is flat footed.

I mean if it makes folks feel better to attack a fellow poster, so be it, but show me something that indicates that Heupel is taking proactive measures anything akin to Cignetti, Kiffin, and other coaches who are aggressive in the portal in building their team.

I'll wait.
Don’t hold your breath. This discussion ain’t worth the time.

Someone knows how to use their noggin. Rare commodity these days.

We had the all time laziness and complacency poster child in Fulmer post NC. Comparatively speaking we're in a much better position now.

What a devil's knot the world of college football has become...

In hindsight, we could have paid Nico $2.5M like the MFer wanted. OR

We could have stood on principal and let him go. Which we did, and I supported.

But...

Now - 1 year later - we're PRAYING to pick up a top-notch QB that will probably cost us (drum roll please)...

$5-$6M.

*sigh*

And we are seriously ****ED without a proven QB.

This is what you need to win a Nattie. THIS AIN'T ROCKET SURGERY!

I may be turning in my college football card here soon enough.

This sucks.
Nico wanted $4 mil last spring. Tennessee was paying him $2.4mil. for 2025 when he left.

There’s things we can 2nd guess JH about but Nico ain’t one. Nobody saw early they’d be the ā€œmoney whoresā€ they turned out to be & it was time to let them go after they tried the last power play.

Not sure that Aguilar wasn’t better than Simpson anyway, but Nico really screwed us by waiting to transfer in the spring. Simpson said he would’ve transferred to Tennessee, but he couldn’t because the SEC will not let you transfer to another SEC team in the spring portal.

No. Rather have Joey. Simp had his shot to come to Tennessee

Nico and his brain trust messed themselves up. They were momentarily famous or infamous and were shown up by Josh and Joey who thrived without the Imaleaving clan. Nico will be playing for his fourth head coach in 3 years (3 at UCLA). This has all been a character test for the group and I must say fairly entertaining to watch.

I think Josh believes he is at Central Florida- YOU ARE NOT!!! Get your tail in gear son this is the SEC - dog eat dog. Got to get with the program son in so many ways are you going to be gone.

Have you noticed the defense?

Yup. I've noticed that we hired a coach who seems to have brought 1/2 the Penn State defense with him. That's proactive. That's being aggressive. Now, look on the offense side. We don't even the semblance of a plan for QB. Heupel swings on a couple, misses, and has no plan B. Piss poor planning.

Again, show me an example of Heupel working the system to bring about an unexpected result. Not waiting to see who is available that no other big schools want and getting him. When Heupel goes against halfway decent coaches, he loses. Why? I'm not sure, but at 9MM a year I don't have a lot of patience for 'workin like heck to get better'

Heupel is late stage Fulmer WITHOUT the championships.

I don't see a lot of difference, frankly. Both waddle the sidelines, clap their hands, grimace a lot, are 100 lbs overweight, and offer platitudes and sentence fragments at pressers.

The difference is that at least Fulmer won something before he got complacent. Seems like the moment Heupel backed his way into a good season (2022) he assumed he was set for life. Golesch left, and since then we have seen really nothing from Heupel. Sure, we backed into the playoffs last year, but look what happened. We got boat raced by OSU and a coach that gives a damn.

I really didn’t think you could post anything dumber than your first reply, wow 😮

Seems schools are happy to pay $9M a year for a coach the fans love, regardless of coaching issues. As soon as Heupel’s appeal wears off, he’s done. Supporters Talk about how great things are also say how bad they were. After a 3 win season, there was only one way to go. His issues will become more apparent in this free for all world of college sports, then more and more will complain. Heupel will win some he shouldn’t but will lose more games, that he should win. He’s already doing it.
