Nico not at practice today

I had this feeling after reading many practice reports about Nico throwing high again, and hearing that Merk was having a stellar Spring. Maybe Nico exposed himself that he's afraid of competition, and Heupel called his hand when he asked for money.

This was a setup by Team Nico his freshman year when his Dad asked for a redshirt year, banking 4 years of eligibility so he could opt out later and transfer out back to the West coast. If Nico was any damn good he wouldn't have needed 4 years anyway. He should've played at least 8 games his frosh year to get experience.

Hopefully, Danny W can see he got played by Team Nico and terminated UT's contract with Nico today.

BTW, UT thinking they were ahead of the NIL game with Spyre, came back to bite them in the azz... to offer a HS kid $2M/yr straight up with no buyout clause was asking for a disaster, and that's what we got.
My understanding is that NIL deal cannot have buyout clauses and performance rewards.

These are not employment contracts.

Nico is the best qb on the roster, coaches play the best players. Coaches want to win, keep their job. People wanting to cut bait with Nico, do not want the best for this team. Everyone wants the most money for what they do, why shouldn’t Nico get all he can get?

I’d be shocked if they don’t already have the deal done at the new school. But I’ve been shocked before.

The question is who is the new school though?

I doubt it's another SEC school as pretty much everyone is set by this point

USC or UCLA? Who cares. They are afterthoughts by this point.

Some B12 team going all in?

Simple realities are that there are only about 30 teams out there who COULD even pay $3 million for a QB even if they wanted to

Is Nico even in the top 30 of returning QBs or prospects after last year?? I would think if he was on that list it would be very near the end

Honestly, I'm in the let him walk category but I really question exactly how much of a market there is out there for Nico in April 2025 with the season 4 months away

Joe Milton was qb1 before Hooker took over and he wouldn’t have sniffed the field without the injury.

Because he's not worth the amount he wants. Anyone who watched the games last year knows that.

You think UT giving him 4 million is best for the program?

2024 SEC Spring Transfer Portal Rules

The SEC spring transfer portal rules differ a little from the rest of college football. Student-athletes from SEC schools who enter the spring transfer portal cannot move to other schools within the conference if they wish to be immediately eligible.

If a student-athlete does choose to transfer to another school within the SEC, they will have to wait a year before being eligible again.

When the conference adopted the spring transfer window in 2021, they added the clause that means that athletes from SEC programs who enter the spring transfer portal can only become immediately eligible if they transfer to schools outside the conference.

Players wishing to transfer between SEC schools must have entered the transfer portal by February 2 to be eligible for fall sports. For the rest of college football, that date is May 1, the end of the spring transfer portal window.

I'm a fan since 1965. I love the Vols.
I was super excited when we signed Nico ! But I'm so tired of the drama he brings.
I hope they let him walk ( if the asking for more money is true).
Even if we suffer, bring on a new QB and go from there.
I truly miss the days when people would run through a wall just to play for Tennessee

nico is one halfway decent season away from going to the NFL. whatever team picks him up knows it's a 1 year rental of a guy UT already put all the effort and time into developing and they will reap all the benefits of that work.
HUH..? There's no NFL team that would be interested in him after one halfway good year. He has shown NFL teams ZERO to make them believe he could succeed in the NFL

I said he is one halfway decent season away. and yes, if Joe f'ing Milton can make it onto an NFL team, Nico can definitely get drafted.

Not an SEC school, he would have to sit for a year, but I can see Ariz St being one because of their playoff run last year.

Hell no, $4M is $1M more than Tony V makes, and he won an NC and is responsible for 28 players!

And $4M is $3M more than Brock Purdy made at San Fran last year!

That's the scale of what $4M is worth, and Nico doesn't measure up!

I'd give that money to Vitello or even Barnes at this point. They know what to do with it.

He is showing he is not a good teammate. Hit the road.
