Nico not at practice today

Beck left Georgia. They had his replacement already there but he was the starter likely and left. Nil was a problem for him and Georgia. Downs left Bama for Ohio State bc of money. Nil issues happen everywhere.

The level of drama doesn't match Tennessee though. Even 2 years ago, we had that NIL situation and defense quit on us against South Carolina that cost us title game. You have the Pruitt drama going on, etc. Just constant drama with this School.

Can't imagine anyone with actual pride and guts wanting to go play in LA in front of 47 fans instead of playing in the southeast in front of tens of thousands every weekend.

Been this way since the Majors Fulmer days. Don't really know why but it has

I agree. the NCAA cannot keep it's old model. that's what I was saying. copy the other leagues. set your system up like the NFL and have players for hire (which they already have). I also suggested earlier that the NCAA abandon all eligibility rules and let players play on college teams for as many years as they want until they are cut from the team or go to the NFL. there have been tona of players that were fantastic at the college level but never could hack it at the pro level. let them stay at the college level and make their money there.
Again, that's a pro league not a college league. And aside from the Antitrust lawsuits which would happen until Congress fixes something.....

Should the University of Tennessee own a pro franchise or two or three? Where in the heck does owning pro franchises click with an educational institution?

So "copy what the pros do but don't call it pro ball" is EXACTLY what has been getting the NCAA sued.

Lots of people have bristled at football, basketball, and possibly baseball going pro and being attached to UT. Many have said that flat won't support pro ball.

You cannot have it both ways unless Congress ACTUALLY fixes something. Congress.... fixes something. No. Not usually.

All I know is we are going to have to get a GM running the team asap. Time for the GM to control the teams budget/contracts. Make all the players sign 2 year agreements. If he has an amazing freshman season understandable to renegotiate but this is not sustainable at all. Eventually the money pit will run dry from all schools just trying to keep players much less gaining new ones.

I felt like we were ultra stable up until the late Fulmer era (2005 was the first major crack).

I missed the Majors stuff. I was in elementary school then. Definitely went through Fulmer era though and that was when I was in college (I was early 2000s so not 1998 or Manning era).

We were a respectable but declining program then. After Fulmer was fired, it was Kiffin mess, then unqualified Dooley, then hopeful Jones who gave us some good moments but failed, and finally Pruitt which was, IMO, the worse of those coaching tenures.

Heupel has positive about him but there seems to be some drama with his locker room or NIL every year. He keeps winning despite it.

As crazy as it sounds, I think it might be a better move for him as he was turning into a flop here. Better to go somewhere less prestigious but with money.

Brother spring practice is almost over. No one worth a salt will be in the portal lol

This is going to be an 8-4 or so year. It was already shaping up to be a little problematic with some of the off season losses. Nico isn't the great QB he was hyped to be but he was probably still our best QB unless on of these backups shows us something we haven't expected like Hooker did.

Even before all of this NIL stuff I was saying that we needed to end up with university affiliated club teams kind of like soccer clubs in the UK.

Not true. It was about money. He said it was a business decision. Part Saban and part NIL. And that's from someone inside the Alabama AD. And I'm not someone to claim having sources, just know someone that's worked inside there for 20 yrs. Now Sayin was more about Saban as was Downs.

It definitely is because saban retired. Why would he leave if saban was staying they barely lost in the cfp semis?? Bama would have matched anything to keep him. He made his “business move/decision” after saban retired he says it pretty plainly here. 0% reason to lie about that.
