I think we all see heart, devotion, loyalty, orange hair, blood, sweat, tears,... We see UT's Rudy. The division is that some of us realize he doesn't have the physical ability needed to be the MLB that UT needs. Others are still clinging to the "wish" that he did.

Jumper, for all his grit, simply allows himself to be taken out of too many plays. He's easily blocked, takes angles that are much too aggressive for his speed, and really struggles getting sideline-to-sideline. He can stick with a TE or work the middle, but the edge is not his happy place.

That's called the high of beating Florida. Now we're back to reality.

Jumper has been terrible thus far this year. McDowell isn't much better but I would take him over Jumper right now next to Bituli.

No thats called D4H. Its the same thing that happened when you absolutely trashed Dobbs and then tried to backtrack on it like it was just tongue and cheek. Your schitck has been exposed.

Then why arent the ones who think that about Jumper coaching D1 football? Shoop is on record saying he views Jumper as a starter. What does that mean? Its either one of 2 things. One, Shoop knows good defensive players when he sees them. Or, Shoop is a dumb DC that really doesnt know what to do with talented players.

Your analysis of Jumper is just an opinion. Just like others who say the guy can play at an SEC level. He has proven it.

Personally, I think Jumper has outplayed McDowell for the majority of both their careers - including two games this season.

I agree that Jumper is not an ideal SEC LB, but he's been more productive than McDowell.

Yes, and here we are?

Coaches love players that don't make mental errors. Every player has physical limitations, some more than others. Coaches can scheme around physical limitations, but can't scheme around mental errors. One great athletic play rarely makes up for a mental bust.

Shoop is not blind, he knows Jumpers physical limits, but also knows his mental abilities. Why publicly bash a player that is putting all he has on the field. It is better to use him as an example to the more physically talented players about getting it right mentally.

The best player is not always the more athletic player.

I'd say Jumper and Bituli, with Jumper playing to the strong side. Gaulden adds a lot more speed to the field than what we have in our base set.

Haha sober as a judge - just calling it how I see it. Has McDowell ever graded out as UT's top defender? Top 5 even? If memory serves Jumper did 2-3 times LY. Twice vs SEC opponents.

Again I understand the guy's shortcomings...just don't know why McDowell seemingly gets a pass.

For the record, I hope Sapp and Bituli take the top two spots as the season progresses. They seem to be our best athletic options. Maybe Smith in there as well.

Jumper makes most of his tackles 10 yards down field. Also McDowell is a way better athlete and looks like he belongs out there, jumper looks like he shouldn't be on the field for Indiana state in fact I'd take their starting MLB over jumper

McDowell is not a Mike so he is not the alternative. If DKjr was healthy he would have started the season as the #1 Mike with Jumper as #2, and Bituli #3. With DKjr out Shoop has to adjust. Against the GT and ISU offenses they utilized the base 4-3, and he was limited with his options, first losing DKjr, and with Smith not quite back, and also Sapp just coming back. Shoop and Thig obviously decided Jumper was more suited to start at Mike those 2 games with Bituli and McDowell as OLBs. It should be Bituli and McDowell as starters, but expect to see Sapp get more PT a sell as Smith once he returns. Would also like to see more of Elliott Berry. And Jumper will continue to get plenty of PT. He plays better than people give him credit for.

When we line up nickel to counter multiple WR looks and pass happy teams, who will be the linebackers?

Please god let it be Bituli/Mcdowell.

Bates, Jumper, Weeble and Buoy.

Waterboy is gonna sit this one out and study up on Medulla Oblongata!

Shoop said Bituli would be the Mike when we go to the 4-2-5. I would guess McDowell will be the Will.

Hopefully we don't see Jumper at all.

He kinda left it open, though.

He said that Bituli's role in Nickel looks is MLB, not that Bituli will be our MLB when we go in the Nickel.

I'm hoping that we mostly see Bituli there, though.

Polarizing requires at least half the fan base to like him. I don't think he's polarizing. He's just not liked. And not for anything he's done. He's just a pawn because it's really on the coaches who keep putting him out there when he's not very good and there are better players on the bench.

Ah yes, because you're at practice every day and see the results. Lol

Jumper is always in the right place at the right time, just can't make the play.

Thats usually because the opposing offense is targeting him, cuz they know they can beat him like a red haired stepchild.

At least one coach had that plan in the before the season even started...

"Their linebackers are really bad relative to the rest of the division, so it’ll be interesting to see if that gets exposed."

Seriously folks, if an opposing OC can isolate a playmaker against jumper one on one, why wouldnt he? You tell your guice, chubb or michel, a TE like hayden hurst or any slot receiver "if you can just beat colton jumper on this play, make him miss, outrun him or run him over, and you got this..." how many SEC playmakers are gonna be worried about their chances? How many plays run with that condition will Colton blow up, making them pay, for running or passing his way????

Can someone put together a colton jumper highlight reel please?

Id rather see one of all his "near misses" it would be comical if not downright sad. But with the outrageous amount of pt hes had, lets just see a highlight reel of all his explosive tackles for losses hes had, all his solo tacklesone after another.

How long would that video be?

personally I wouldn't run nickel at all, but if I were going to I'd move TK up to linebacker
