When we line up nickel to counter multiple WR looks and pass happy teams, who will be the linebackers?

Please god let it be Bituli/Mcdowell.

Shoop said Bituli would be the Mike when we go to the 4-2-5. I would guess McDowell will be the Will.

Hopefully we don't see Jumper at all.

Personally, I think Jumper has outplayed McDowell for the majority of both their careers - including two games this season.

I agree that Jumper is not an ideal SEC LB, but he's been more productive than McDowell.

I hope so... but don't quite trust you to hear what is actually said.

When did Shoop say this?

I think I heard him say that Bituli would play MLB in the 4-2-5... I didn't hear him say he'd start in front of Jumper.

Shoop knows his job is on the line. He isn't dumb enough to keep Jumper out there ahead of Bituli.

I think the benching of TKjr in favor of Abernathy and Warrior against Georgia Tech lets me know that the coaches know it's time to play the best players. No more favoritism for guys with experience.

It's unbelievable how polarizing Jumper is to this fan base.

Well he has it all except the foot speed/athleticism to be a starting caliber SEC middle linebacker. So you love him for all the good things he does, but he just wasn't blessed with enough natural ability to be a starter at this level.

He can make some plays other guys can't based on diagnosis and understanding, but in the end speed kills in this conference.

Polarizing requires at least half the fan base to like him. I don't think he's polarizing. He's just not liked. And not for anything he's done. He's just a pawn because it's really on the coaches who keep putting him out there when he's not very good and there are better players on the bench.

Idk man every time Shoop mentions Jumper is all positive. He loves the kid. I hope you're right but I'll believe it when I see it

QUOTE=Dobbs 4 Heisman;13099514]I've been one of the harshest critics of Colton Jumper. Like many I didn't think he deserved to start after DKjr went down. I was in the camp of give anyone else a shot but him. I'm happy to see him prove me wrong. The kid has been nothing short of phenomenal the last 3 weeks.

In fact he's been so good that I think once Kirkland gets healthy, we should think about moving DKjr to JRM's old position as the weakside linebacker. Kirkland's speed and athleticism is actually more suited to outside linebacker than middle linebacker. He would be phenomenal at that position. Especially now that it looks like we'll be without JRM for the rest of the season.

I know this sounds crazy but Colton Jumper is playing too good to get off the field right now and he's been better than Cortez McDowell so far. I personally feel alot better with DKjr and Jumper out there at linebacker than DKjr and Cortez.[/QUOTE]

That's called the high of beating Florida. Now we're back to reality.

Jumper has been terrible thus far this year. McDowell isn't much better but I would take him over Jumper right now next to Bituli.

Mcdowell isn't good but I'd take him over Jumper everyday. He's faster and actually can tackle. He has more solo tackles than Jumper.

I find it incredible that we're facing '16 campaign all over again when you consider the MLB position in '17. Freakin' Ground-Hog-Day

I think we all see heart, devotion, loyalty, orange hair, blood, sweat, tears,... We see UT's Rudy. The division is that some of us realize he doesn't have the physical ability needed to be the MLB that UT needs. Others are still clinging to the "wish" that he did.

Not my question but I guess your non-answer... is an answer. You didn't actually hear Shoop say that, did you?

FWIW, I don't think it is a matter of him being dumb.

Could be Bituli/Sapp if Sapp is fully recovered...the DL will have to show that they can stop the run and get some penetration or we won't be running much nickle...

Is this an admission to being high?!?!?

You've had too much wild turkey. Try not to miss those AA meetings.

Haha sober as a judge - just calling it how I see it. Has McDowell ever graded out as UT's top defender? Top 5 even? If memory serves Jumper did 2-3 times LY. Twice vs SEC opponents.

Again I understand the guy's shortcomings...just don't know why McDowell seemingly gets a pass.

For the record, I hope Sapp and Bituli take the top two spots as the season progresses. They seem to be our best athletic options. Maybe Smith in there as well.
