Well, ironically, I meant "perfection" in a relative way. Basically, unlike most, I think he'll get almost no newbie choke allowance, though as long as any mistakes he makes aren't too viscious, he'll be able to make it up with good plays.
On the "real qb's step up" idea, I don't know enough to say anything about how the qb's mentioned did in their first few starts, but I'd bet you anything those 'real quarterbacks' had real coaches when it came to actually getting some game time snaps before they were expected to start.
That's actually what makes Crompton so painful- he got some snaps (and two starts?) back in 2005 when Ainge was determined to show him the way a big-time college qb really sucks. In fact, he didn't look bad at all. So what's missing now, what, in terms of offensive coaching, has actually changed since then? I know, but I don't want to speak the names. Lets just say one was a scapegoat, and one turned out to be a lot more talented goat than I want to admit.
Finally, it ain't cynical to say a man who has stooped to some of the face-saving things CPF has would fail a kid then scapegoat him to protect himself from the one type of threat that's finally beginning to touch him-- butts in seats, and what that implies for other more substantial sources of revenue.
Cornered recently by a reporter after a dinner, Majors finally said that Chavis has been saving CPF's job for 10 years. While I believe that, I don't think that's been as important as the fact he's gotten TN fans comfortable with "better than most", and that's kept the money coming in.
