Well, ironically, I meant "perfection" in a relative way. Basically, unlike most, I think he'll get almost no newbie choke allowance, though as long as any mistakes he makes aren't too viscious, he'll be able to make it up with good plays.

On the "real qb's step up" idea, I don't know enough to say anything about how the qb's mentioned did in their first few starts, but I'd bet you anything those 'real quarterbacks' had real coaches when it came to actually getting some game time snaps before they were expected to start.

That's actually what makes Crompton so painful- he got some snaps (and two starts?) back in 2005 when Ainge was determined to show him the way a big-time college qb really sucks. In fact, he didn't look bad at all. So what's missing now, what, in terms of offensive coaching, has actually changed since then? I know, but I don't want to speak the names. Lets just say one was a scapegoat, and one turned out to be a lot more talented goat than I want to admit.

Finally, it ain't cynical to say a man who has stooped to some of the face-saving things CPF has would fail a kid then scapegoat him to protect himself from the one type of threat that's finally beginning to touch him-- butts in seats, and what that implies for other more substantial sources of revenue.

Cornered recently by a reporter after a dinner, Majors finally said that Chavis has been saving CPF's job for 10 years. While I believe that, I don't think that's been as important as the fact he's gotten TN fans comfortable with "better than most", and that's kept the money coming in.

There is quite a bit of truth to that.

2. After tomorrow I'll never see anyone on this board spell it Nick Stevens. Seriously, this one isn't that hard people.

People couldn't spell Erik Ainge right after 4 years, why would the same people not spell it Stevens after 4? Same goes for a handful of other players whose names get butchered.

I am happy for stephans but this is a horrible situation he has been put in. I think he will probably have a decent game against NIU. This does of course mean the o line will have to block and the receivers will have to catch.
If he has a great game vs NIU then there will be even more pressure vs Georgia and BAMA. Doing well against NIU is one thing doing well against the sec teams is quite another. Dont get me wrong I hope he does very well in all his starts.

You can't really get down on fans about the way they spell players' names when, after years of encouragement, the Head Coach still can't spell either "buck", "stops", or "here".

I wonder how nervous Stephens is tonight? Only few million people expecting him to save the season. We are not asking for much are we?

Save the season? No.
Show us hope for the future? Yes.

Heck, I'll be happy to see a pass in the same zip code as a receiver that hasn't bounced twice already.

Just watched Stephens video on on Rivals. He made some very good passes under pressure, and also scrambled several times until he saw someone open downfield. I hope he can do this the rest of the season at UT. If he can, I think the rest of our team is playing well enough to finish the season pretty well.
