Nick Stephens' Performance

I think Stephens did a nice job, all things considered. I shudder to think of what this game might have been if Crompton had played.

With Stephens playing well, other areas of concern were exposed: The O-line; 3rd down defense; penalties; and the G-gun. We should have left it on the sideline, and let Stephens find a rhythm.

A win is a win, but a 4 point win against NIU, in Neyland, doesn't give me a lot of confidence about any of our remaining games, except for maybe Wyoming.

Still, we found a QB. It's a start.

go vols.

Agreed....Stephens performed as well as one could hope for...under the circumstances. Unfortunately, the "problems" go far beyond "finding a QB". Hold on...this will get ugly before it gets better.

The defense has yet to see an offense that is both good and trying to score.

:hi:I don't mean to burst your bubble or give you anything to promote depression but after next week you will lose this matter as something about which you can complain.
It is a given that UGALY will be pretty good and those dawgs will definitely trying score.
So, and not that it will happen, if we play them, hold their offense, and out score them, what will you complain about?
Remember Coach Fulmer is not responsible for the service at the UGAly concession stands and he isn't responsible for trim the hedges in their stadium either.

Is atkins the newest speedbump under the big orange bus? Kinda thought the o line had lost faith in the qb/rb and hoped if nick came in and had a good 1/2 he'd bring life back into them. Didn't see the life in them just yet..still hope they will get fired up with a leader back their.

the pass to Jones wasnt great at all, he gave Jones no lead. But of course, wouldnt have lead him to much either, wouldnt want to be booed out of neyland. But when we get passes like that against UGA, we have to get touchdowns, settling for a field goal in that situation is just completly stupid.

I didn't have a problem with that. He couldn't even really step into the throw because their was a defender coming right into his face. Right after he let it go, he got knocked down. The fact that he stood in there and got the ball to Jones was pretty good.

1) The team has almost no real playmakers. Foster is good at finding narrow seams and getting four or seven yards, and that's about it. Little burst or speed, and hence very few long runs. The WRs are mediocre at best--no big-time athletes except Jones, and not even sure he's a traditional WR.

2) Poor QB play. 'Nuff said. Stephens is an improvement of Crompton, but still questions.

3) Mediocre execution in all phases...too many mistakes; mediocre OL play.

4) Inconsistent play calling/poor coaching: too many passes against ucla, failure to change qbs or do anything against auburn, dumb call last night--you roll out Stephens left on third and three when you need a TD--why?

Throw some ABSYMAL special teams play on this salad---punts and ko's ((both sides)) have been terrible, erratic fg kicking, too--and it's easy to see why the Vols are bad.

The defense is good--that's the bright side. And they will have to hold georgia to 14 points for us to win with this pee-wee offense and our senile head coach--"WORKING LIKE HECK!" There is a very good chance the Vols will give up a special play TD against the pups. When you've got a coach who's lost his bearings--things mediocre to bad performances are pretty good--you've got issues.

Didnt' watch the game but seen the highlights and what i seen of him he looked good... but as always time will tell. The GA game will definitely be a test for him... I don't expect them to win but hopefully they will continue to improve.

BTW did anyone see a tb screen? When the other team is rushing without regard it's kinda OC 101 to throw in a screen or two to slow the rush down. We have so many missed opportunities it's ridiculous. I will ask again because I've not been answered (I could be on everyone's ignore list) but do the qb's have any authority to call an audible at the line?

Georgia will not run the ball on us with our lineman and backers. They will not pass on us since we have the best secondary in the nation. Stephans will do just enough to get us a win saturday between the hedges. I expect it to be a defense struggle, Vols win by 7. I predict the final score will be UGA-10, VOLS- 17. Flashback of a few years ago when Eric Ainge went to UGA his first time and pulled it out. GO VOLS!!!!!!
