From TFPs Stephen Hargis..

"Alabama coaches have said I'm the first player to ever say he didn't like the campus, so they want me to come back down for one more visit," Smith said. "When I went there, it just felt awkward. None of the players or coaches were talking to each other or interacting like we had at Tennessee. I got the impression that I didn't want any of the guys they had committed to be my teammates.

If Smith is even an average SEC defensive end, I have a feeling that he will replace Berry as my favorite current Vol when Eric leaves for the league ... I like the way this guy operates.

what a great kid to have on our side, I love that Coach O said to go ahead and visit and then come back home to UT, you don't think he may be trying to go back down and talk us up to their recruits, please he sounds like one of the best staff members we got!

If Jesse commits to us, you're going to see a bunch of big-time wide receivers, running backs and offensive linemen follow him," Smith said. "Once he does, everything will really start to fall in place for us. Players want to go where they're going to be surrounded by talent, and quarterback is the key for us right now

i like the sound of that. I'm probably reading too much into it but oh well.

He has been a guest on Chattanooga Sports Talk several times. If you have never heard him....you need to. This kid is incredible. So well spoken, very intelligent kid. Proud he is a Vol!

I checked the website to see if they had any of the interviews archived, and they don't. But it reminded me the Maurice calls are on there. If you've never listened to them, they are a scream!!!

just read the link and was impressed with what this young man had to say. Looking forward to seeing him next fall.

I think I might have a second favorite player (behind Nuke). Wow, this guy is impressive. If he is HALF as good on the field as he is in interviews, then the Vols have landed a STUD.

Now if he can teach his team mates how to act and be excited for UT football like he is, then watch out world!!

I really hope this kid succeeds at UT! Id like to see him be the next coming of Reggie White. AS much as he loves our school, you cant help but want nothing but the best for him.

Quote from the end of the article:

"My job right now is to help UT be the program it used to be. Those good old days need to be now, in the present. And I want it to be that way not just for my four years but even beyond that. I want to come back like Peyton Manning and keep an eye on things and make sure it's going the way it should."

Whatever your opinion of Peyton (and I like him), it's nice to have an NFL superstar and a good all-around mentor making an appearance on campus to be someone that these kids can look up to.

Not sure how 2009's going to go, but I have good feelings about the future.
