Nicco: “Come back home to family”

Guess he’s only gonna play for the Chargers or the 49ers then.

Ya know….family proximity first

Tbh he got exactly what he deserved trying to hold HIS TEAM hostage(again)…. Less money in a more heavily taxed state to play on an inferior team with fewer weapons. Karma
Yeah I don’t buy the homesick angle either. Looked to me like there were 8 or 10 family members at every game. He/they seemed just fine until UT refused the request for a raise. Funny how that works.

This was about all he could say. He was going to get clowned either way, but this was path of least resistance. If he said it was about money, then that would not make sense because he is getting paid less. If he said it was about team performance, then we all know that would have been false because he went to a worse team.

Everyone knows the truth. Nico's dad overplayed their hand, and they were lucky that UCLA is that desperate for something. Honestly, I feel bad for Nico. I don't think he had much of a decision in this at all. It is a shame when things like this happen, but they do happen. I wish no ill will toward the kid. Hopefully he will be able to remove himself from Big Nic's gravitational pull one day and his talent will manifest itself into success.

It was the Defense, running game (Nico included), Nico’s arm, and Donte’s speed that got us to the playoffs.

He was a significant part of the 2024 team.
NOW he isn’t
- that doesn’t mean he never made said impact
- that doesnt mean Tennessee is hurting for QB skills
- and that doesnt mean we can’t make the playoffs.

WE DONT HAVE TO COMPLETELY DELEGITIMIZE a players actual contributions just because he did Tennessee wrong.

What do we do?
We CHEER AGULAR or MERK, or GMAC.

The reality here is that Nico contributed very little to last season’s success. His numbers against decent competition were pedestrian and he struggled mightily against the better teams. He was a game manager at best.

He has incredible upside. But we only saw it against Chattanooga last season. We don’t play very many Chattanoogas.

Given his fragility on a personal level as evidenced by still living like a 12-year-old under his father’s iron grip, I doubt he will ever reach his ceiling.

I would say in a LOT of games, we won despite Nico.

kid threw 9 TDs in all of conference play and 4 were vs Vandy the last week of the yr. Atleast one of those happened (Matthews TD) when the game was a wrap.

Didnt score a singular point in the first half the month of October.

He was pathetic last yr to be honest. For such a so called phenom he processes things very slow.

Guys can we please not start this. I really don’t want to see Vol fans talk about Nico for the rest of my life. It’s embarrassing. It’s like the Kiffin obsession all over again.

And I’m not even really talking about the OP. It’s all over X. All the Vol Twitter accounts are on Nico’s coattails today

Didn't his immediate family move to Knoxville? And it seemed like a ton of them were at every game?

Even if what he's saying is true, it still isn't an excuse for not showing up to practice and not telling coaches/teammates what he was planning to do.

Yall can take the high road, always better. As for me? F dat guy. Hope his dog has fleas.

Nico made decisions not to show up to plenty all on his own. I have zero respect or sympathy for him or the position he’s put himself in. He and his “representatives” did their best to screw Tennessee over otw out the door.

I find it funny that the really the only thing the coach at UCLA, DeShean Foster, can say about that guy is "the sky is the limit"...well no s#!t !!!
If you're performance in college up to this point has been middle of the road, then yeah "the sky is the limit", but the reality is the ceiling is low.

Seriously though, I hope all the best for Nico and HE finds HIS way without that outside influence - be it family, agent, or who ever.
That said, I just don't think he has the 'it' to make an NFL roster right now.

He could have bought a house for his family to live in in Knoxville with all the money he left on the table. Afterall it would have just been a year or two more. In the NFL he could end up in New England or Buffalo.

Plus in the Knoxville, all you had to do was play decent for one more year and try your talents in the NFL. If so, you would have been a VFL and beloved in this city for the rest of your life. No one in southern Cal is going to care one bit about you the moment you dip out.
It was my understanding that the whole damn family lived in a house in North Knoxville and that Nico spent a lot more time there than with his teammates

Foster is not exactly known for his public speaking prowess. Go on YouTube and check out his first B1G media days appearance. I actually felt bad for him

Exactly …. This is his attempt at damage control.
You said it.

OTOH, he probably is taking some comfort in being back home. The drama that played out in April didn't turn out how he expected and it was probably pretty traumatic for him. He's picking up the pieces now, and coming to grips with his new reality. He (and/or his family) have come up with this little story to help him navigate that transition.

Maybe he can convince himself, but I don't think anyone else is buying it.

Per ESPN article Iamaleava: Left Tennessee to come back home and hopes us “fans” understand.

I can understand that. But still, because of the increase demand in money, something still isn’t right about his reasoning.
Nico had to settle for UCLA because no one else was willing to pay him what he was asking for or wanted to deal with his crap. If another school like Oregon for example would have paid, then he would have been playing for them. The whole going home stuff is a complete load of BS. It is pretty easy to tell that his whole plan back fired.

How many half’s did we score zero in SEC play? He wasn’t that good.
