NFL Scouts Are Skeptical About Derek Barnett

"I'm not big on Derek Barnett but don't attach my name to it because he will MOST LIKELY prove me wrong"

It's a business now. You aren't going to see "scout for team with late round pick that needs D line help says Barnett is a top 10 pick and hopefully other teams won't realize that so his team can draft him"

Mel Kiper is off and misses a lot but they keep bringing him back. Because he was one of the first nerds to do this and now he is the face of the draft:eek:hmy:. His face is really more suited for radio or 70's hairdo commercials. that is really a face for radio.

Look I get the whole "pretend to not like DB so you can take him top 10" mindset but it's laughable at best. That discussion is not happening for Garrett and he's not the player Derek is. DB will be 25+ sacks better than Myles Garrett will ever be. Quote me on this 8 years from now. And if you don't I'll OCI quote myself.

Derek Barnett is the most competitive individual I've ever met in my life

He's made a child out of 5+ top 10 offensive lineman draft picks like it was his side job. Imagine what Derek will do to these idiot left tackles/quarterbacks when they pay him tens of millions of well deserved dollar bills?

You saw what he did to Reggie's record.

If he decides he wants to break Bruce's record he will.

If you are a scout giving information about a prospect anonymously you are a loser a** scout

Posts like this might explain why they choose to remain anonymous. Oh, and the fact that they work for NFL teams and don't want to give away their team's view on a certain player. Come on now.

Believe it or not, scouts aren't doing this just to spite your particular favorite college football team. And if every negative scouting report was just a "smokescreen" to have a player fall to their team then no one would take them seriously and it wouldn't have any effect. College skill sets and college dominance don't always translate to those same things in the pros. What I have personally seen from Barnett leads me to believe he'll have a great pro career, but I'm also not remotely qualified to really make a judgment in that regard. If someone more qualified than myself disagrees, I am more than willing to put my bias aside and respect their opinion and reasoning, even if I don't necessarily agree with it myself.

Un-named scouts hate us.

Un-named scouts hate us. ESPN hates us. Un-named scouts are ESPN!

But seriously, if they aren't willing to stand behind their assessments for reasons of maintaining privacy, then they should keep them private where they don't have the opportunity to adversely affect someone's livelihood with no accountability checks in place. That's why anonymous holds zero weight.

Success in college has nothing to do with success in the NFL. With that said, I don't see him being a Michael Sam (no jokes intended) but a good NFL player.

Then why does 99% of the people that speak on him have nothing but amazing things to say? Including him being a top-15 pick! By the way, I understand not all college players convert to the NFL and some highly talented players end up being busts. Also, Michael Sams had the talent, IMO!!! His coming out party is the only reason he isn't playing on a high level in the NFL right now.

Barnett was double-teamed and/or held every play, of every game he played in for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, and still managed to keep constant pressure on the QB and break Reggie White's record.

This guys must scout for the Cleveland Browns; it would explain a lot.

If he could get to the QB, they'd sign Bruce Vilanch...teams will put up with shenanigans if there's a payoff.

Imo, Myles Garrett is the one that I have more questions about. The stats against better competition just aren't there, to be considered the no1 pick.

If he's being considered a 3-4 lb/de, he may be what scouts are looking for. But, Barnett is the better De all day every day.

tap the brakes a little there friend.....

Barnett is truly good, but let's NOT make the mistake of thinking that he was better than Reggie....

I guess time will tell.

He was absolutely better than Reggie White and in only 3 years of college.

That's all you can compare them on right now.

Barnett is one of the most explosive lineman ive ever seen. Dont agree with that statement.

Garrett has the tools to be successful in a 3-4 or 4-3 defense which is one of the reasons he ranks so high. Another is he has all the physical tools with almost no physical negatives. He is smart, doesn't have any character issues, and the fame of being "the guy" for over 3 years hasn't lead to any public meltdowns. This means he can be the face of your franchise, put him on billboards around town and sell tickets and not worry he'll go all Richard Sherman and talk smack with a microphone in his face or run off to Vegas when he's supposed to be in AA meetings
