NFL Scout: Vols upperclassmen "pretty damn soft"

First off let me say I bleed Orange just like everyone else but is there some truth to some of these statements? I love the kids that put on that Power T every Saturday but where is that that mean streak? Juan Jennings is a good example. This kid is tough and brings it every down. To me some of the players are too nice. They dont play with the mentality that I will step on your mother's face to win this game. I really hate to use this but, look at the guys from Bammer. Hate them but those guys play like they hate you. I think Saban feeds them gun powder. :)
But think about the 98 team. That team would storm the gates of Hell if needed.Big John Henderson, Al Wilson etc. Those guys were serious and were about wins by any means necessary. Thats what we need. Lets Go Vols!!!!!!

Hay D4H, you know most of these guys on here can't go back in their short term memory more than 2 0r 3 posts. Now how do you expect them to go back a whole season, to remember a post or thread of more than a few words?

Plenty of us remember many of the wrong and outrageous "predictions" he's made. I think that's primarily his point....he just wants to be remembered, cause from the picks/opinions he's given, sure doesn't look like he's interested at all in being right.

Holding OL's out who might just be "hurt" and not injured won't help this perception. It might be the right answer... but it creates the perception that your guys aren't tough enough to play through pain. Anyone who has ever played for a good team knows that at a very core, foundational level... usually it is the guy with toughness who plays through and inflicts pain that prevails.

Of course they played soft. At times both physically and mentally. But what can we expect after a year without a real Strength and Conditioning program? That may have Butch's biggest mistake as a Vol coach and regardless of how good the Rock is at his job it will likely take more than one off season to recover.

Pretty easy to saw why people could think they are.(?)We have alot of highly rated recruits that cant seem to reach potenial, have a ton of injuries (not saying an injury makea someone soft) but rather something is wrong with the way these guys are training / being cared for etc.
:loco:Dang! Another nega to put on ignore! I can blame my forgetfulness on getting old, but at least I'm educated.:thud:

The blocking scheme has them overthinking instead of just putting a hat on a hat and gettin' ugly.

I would add to that in saying our OLinemen do more backing up and lateral movement at the snap, instead of forward movement like an Auburn OL that I watch pretty often. It makes me wonder if that has added to the frequent injuries of our OLinemen. Many of them are held out of practice right now for various sprains and strains obviously. All that lateral and backward movement is going to get them hurt more often, even in practice sessions. If they want to turn a defender outside or inside, move him back and turn him. Don't give ground, but take ground. Several of our linemen were actually limping through the entirety of last season and never close to peak health.

I'm surprised Mike Griffith who defends Butch a lot wrote it. I almost wonder if Butch asked him to write it to motivate the team.

Griff is probably doing it to start laying the foundation of excuses for Butch in case the season goes South.

I think Butch gets more criticism than he deserves, but In Griff's world Butch can do no wrong and everything bad is always someone else's fault.

This is pretty harsh right here:

“You won’t see a tight end block as bad as Ethan Wolf. He avoids contact, one of the softest players I’ve ever seen on film,” the scout said. “The amount of times the guy he’s supposed to be blocking makes a hit on the ball carrier is unbelievable. Just turn on the film or watch him in games, it’s right there.”

“Wolf will turn down passes over the middle instead of laying himself out and taking the hit. So it’s not about the weight, it’s about heart and pride and not wanting that ball carrier behind you to take those hits because you missed your block.”

If Jones' team is soft at this point... no one else can be at fault.

Agree with very first post...dumb media article. Soft? So why didn't Virginia Tech, Georgia, Florida, and others walk all over these crime puff Tennessee players? Facts do not support the premise of the article. PURE BS aka Fake News. I am sure there are degrees of toughness, experience, athleticism, across the offense and defense and coaches will scheme to cover those up, but soft?

honestly, that's fine with me...heck, even Vegas has the spread to three, so let all the "experts" pile it on...we'll see who's laughing last...our team hears and reads this crap also...gonna be good...:salute:

GO VOLS!
IMO....I doubt UT players even read this junk period, much less take it seriously.:twocents:

I agree with you. Even if anything he said was true singling out these kids tells me MG pretty much is a pos.

I'm reading these opinions here and there. I'm seeing the younger recruits take over the depth chart as well. I am honestly beginning to believe we are just bringing in a higher caliber of recruit. They are built better. It's all part of the natural process.

What younger kids are taking over the depth chart? Give us names....who are they and who's places are they taking? I'll give you Trey Smith taking the right guard slot from an upperclassman. Who else?
