Am I missing something here. Successful OC's in the NFL are showing interesdt in the TN OC position...not the HC position but the OC position. Why is this?

Why? UTK always does and always will have the "talent" and the facilities and atmosphere to compete for a National Championship. And, financially UTK can probably offer just as much as they are making now. The question is why not?

But with the added responsibilities of recruitment and the extra work involved in player development..it just seems odd to me.

I think the NFL OC's show interest because a drastic improvement in the college game seems to be more noticable than a drastic improvement for an NFL team. For an NFL team, the first praise for a better offense goes to whatever free agent the team signed in the offseason, then some praise goes to the HC, and then if anything is left the NFL OC might get some credit.

In college, it seems to go in reverse order. Plus, this a high profile opportunity for a college job.

Guys, I hope CPF "honestly" looks at others besides Cutclif for the offensive coordinator job. Coach Cut is good granted. I just believe it's time to go elsewhere for new ideas. UT is notorious about keeping things "in-house" which I think is not a good idea all of the time.

This seems premature.

Most NFL offensive coordinators arent going to leave the NFL to become an offensive coordinator in college unless they have been fired first. All of the NFL head coaches who coached later in college were fired from the NFL.

I'm guessing that these NFL OC's may see the opportunity as a stepping stone, perhaps to Fulmer's job or a HC position someplace else if they show themselves successful. That's what i like about open competition. the cream rises to the top. In the political good-ole boy system, it's reversed. Don't hire anyone who can take your job and give the best jobs to your buddies who will watch your back. It's really stupid to think that way though, because if you surround yourself with greatness, you look great yourself so you don't need to worry abouit your job...oh well.

Fulmer is getting on up in years and will probably retire within 5 years. It makes sense that whoever comes to UT as OC would have the leg up at getting the head coach position when Fulmer retires.

I just read some interesting info on another board. Tony Barnhart reported that Norm Chow has contacted UT. Not sure if it's true but that's an internet rumor. The Titans would be a frustrating job.

Norm "freakin" Chow. If that does happen to be true, :cross: then the search is over as far as I'm concerned. Show the man the money already.

Seems like I mentioned this awhile back and some thought it to be a ridiculous idea...told ya it might be possible!!!

Wouldn't it be great?

Well, they do list "one undisclosed candidate" for the OC position. It is the internet so you know how rumors are but it would be amazing.

I think it's a pipe dream. I think I remember seeing that Chow's deal with the Titans is worth something like $1 million per year. I highly doubt we are going to be paying an assistant coach anything remotely close to that.

Chow was also making $400K at USC. Here's what would really torq me...when UT hires a new OC, I bet it will be at double what RS made. RS might have just doen himself a favor. He can easily spend 5 years at somewhere like Illinois or a strong DII school then make a nice comeback at much higher pay.
