NFL Lineman Size by Decade

I posted this in another thread, but I think it deserves its own thread here. I'm blown away.

The average lineman in the 1950's was 6' 2" 234 lbs = Matt Stafford

1980's was 6' 4" 272 lbs = Robert Quinn

2010's is 6' 5" 312 lbs

At least the weights appear to have topped off at ~310lbs. It seems just about every OL-man in the NFL wears a knee brace (or 2).

That's what I figured. In pass blocking it's inevitable that bodies will get whipped around and hit them on the outside of the knee. Giving up a little mobility for a big time injury prevention is a good tradeoff for linemen.

My Dad started middle linebacker at a good JC in the late 1960s. He was only like 190-200 lbs.

The height was a bit of an exaggeration on my part, but the weight I could definitely see.
