Down the road, assuming both players stay injury free, and develop pretty much as expected, who's gonna' get drafted higher when they go pro : Eric Berry, or Percy Harvin?

yes, right now harvin is a year ahead.

I'd say Berry, simply because I think it's tougher to find a versatile, game-changing defensive back.

Well, but it will also come down to what teams are getting the top picks, and what players and positions they are needing to fill. Seems like receivers are always going higher in the draft in general to me, but then again I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the draft outside of the top 10 and the UT boys that go later.

I agree, much of the draft is all about filling needs unless the dolphins or raiders are picking.

Berry.. He translates better. Harvin's numbers are inflated due to the "system". I hate that word but it fits. There are no real "systems" in the NFL. Just ask Spurrier. Harvin is a play maker but I doubt an NFL team has ideations of lining him up in the back field a half dozen times a game.

True, I suppose a lot of his stock will depend on his status as a possible return man, and the number of receiving yards he puts up in the next few years. It's possible some more "traditional" receivers would go before him, but it isn't like he can't run a route or catch the ball. In regards to the original point, your draft pick isn't always the strongest indicator of how great an NFL player you are going to be. Plenty of top draft picks have been great, but just as many have flamed out. By the same token you have guys like Tom Brady, who was basically the last pick of his draft and is arguably the best NFL QB playing the game right now.

Berry because they have pretty equal talent, but his size for a DB is much better than Harvin's for a WR.
berry is a good sized DB, with Spectacular speed..
Harvin is a small WR at 5-11 180 lbs. if that.. and pro scouts dont always like small WR's..

Hard to argue with this.

If the Lions are picking first then it will be Harvin because they are always drafting the top receiver left on the board when its their turn to draft.

It is hard to tell who will be drafted higher because there are so many variables to where a player is drafted, but I believe Harvin will get drafted higher because he has unbelievable speed and change the entire game with his athletic ability. I just hope he leaves a year early.

Harvin will be the best player in the conference next year. Somebody in the NFL will find a very good spot for him.

Finding a Safety/CB with Berry's skill-set is more rare than a WR with Harvin's... unless he shows absolutely unbelievable hands and a huge vertical.

Berry was mentioned with the likes of Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu, and that's exactly where he's going if he continues.

But good point about the Lions.

My prediction, Eric Berry will be a 2 time All-American selecion and go early as a Junior. First DB taken in the draft, definite first-round.

you can't really answer this right now. also, in the future it's gonna depend on which teams need what

A question none can answer. Lets just hope Berry can cover Harvin next year. And Berry has just played one season, alot of potential yes, but consider others...Hefney. I think Berry can be great, and so can Harvin, but you cant compare the two, different positions, and probably will go at different times.
