I just read an article on NFL.com, about how draft grades will be issued for underclassmen. The article says, because of a new policy, underclassmen will receive one of only three grades: first round, second round, or a recommendation to return to school. With this new policy in mind, what are your thoughts about who stays and who goes pro (JRM, Sutton, Kamara)...

I think that Sutton and JRM will get favorable feedback. I think that Kamara will, and should, be told stay in college for another year of eval. However, you never know what's going on with these guys. Sometimes a guy will leave early for better or (usually) worse.

In a perfect world, all three return and we come back stocked for 2016. It's up to them. I won't blame anyone for realizing their dreams.

I think Sutton and Kamara leave, and JRM stays. JRM could drastically improve his stock if he were to stay another year. Sutton could either help or damage his stock. And Kamara's stock would stay about the same because he would still be splitting carries.

IMO Sutton is as good as gone. Kamara is coming back, and JRM is a total toss up. My heart says JRM is coming back but my gut says he's dust.

Sutton leaving now is based on how much he wants to win it all with the Vols - much like Peyton. I think he'll be gone but who knows.

Side note: the end of Peyton's JR season before he decided to play his Senior year was after he beat Northwestern in the Citrus Bowl :whistling:

I'm gonna put down my koolaid now.

If that's truly how they'll be graded, the only one with a possibility of getting a second round grade is Sutton. Kamara doesn't have the body of experience, yet. He's played one year of big time football. He didn't play at Bama, and JuCo ball is not big time. He needs one more year. Maybin needs to get bigger while keeping his explosiveness. Right now, he's undersized to be an NFL LB. That'll keep him from being an early pick in the draft. Some team would be willing to take a flyer on him later in the draft, but he won't go first three rounds.

All that said, players generally convince themselves of what they want to believe, so it's not hard to imagine all three declaring.

Local TV needs to air those thrilling documentaries, "Bryce Brown Strikes Gold" and "How to Live On Newspaper Clippings" a few more times.

Sutton should go. And maybe even JRM. But Kamara needs to come back. Dude is good but if he's even drafted itll be in the last round or so.

Only Sutton has a first 2 rounds grade. JRM and Kamara are both later round grades at best. JRM needs to put on some weight if he wants to play in the league.

I take their boards with a grain of salt, but right now neither Todd McShay nor Mel Kiper have any of the three on their big boards. McShay lists his top 5 at each position and Kiper has his top 10 at each position. I would have thought that Sutton would at least have made a board. Kamara will probably do well at the next level with his versatility but just doesn't have enough film at this point to be ranked high. JRM is just a baller. He reminds me of Danny Travathan and Wesley Woodyard from UK a few years ago. He's a bit undersized for his position but you can't argue with his productivity. I personally hope that all three come back to help UT roll next year.

Go and get the money. You can always fiinish your education later

What if one of them doesn't get drafted or even make a team? Remember Josh Richardson didn't make an NBA roster. He left before Counzo's first season at U.T. began.

You can't necessarily take what the draft advisory predicts.
I bet some guys were taken early because a team liked them or some were not taken at all.

I remember the Auburn running back Ben Tate was predicted to go in the early rounds but five backs were drafted before him to include TOby Gerheart.

IMO I think all 3 should come back. Not sure that even Sutton will be drafted first 2 rounds. He is projected less than the Fla db (Hargreaves his name?) and he was totally burned by Mich. yesterday.

Not really. 4-3 OLB are not what they used to be in the league. Looking for faster guys that can cover in space.

Shaq Thompson, Kwon Alexander, Eric Kendricks all drafted last year to 4-3 teams and balling out. None weighed more than 232.

I think they also need to look at next years potential draft class at their respective positions. If they are projected this year as 5 th of their position group but next year looks like six or seven they may try and improve their draft stock in the combine this year. If they look like third next year, wait till then.

I can't blame any of them for leaving. But I agree that JRM and AK should stay. Being a very late round pick or not drafted at all and end up trying to get on as a free agent would be a mistake.

Nothing to stop them from going back to school and getting a degree if they don't get drafted.

My best guess is Sutton in round 1-2, Maybin in round 3-4, and Kamara in round 4-6.

Maybin and Kamara could both make more money by coming back though and developing.

Maybin needs some more good weight and Kamara needs more film for the teams to study.

JRM is ~225. That means most OL are gonna outweigh him by 75-100 lbs. he needs 10-15 more lbs on his upper body to shed blocks.

It is has a lot to do with the money. I've heard of players, maybe schools, taking out insurance against injury for senior year. If athlete and his family need the money and he is probable chance of making big money, go and help yourself. Continue working with alumni assoc to finish degree. Can't fault Sutton, JRM, others from helping themselves as they obviously helped the U of T. Go Vols!

He doesn't need to be 240. He'll be just fine playing at 230.

I just listed 3 rookies who weigh 230 and under with 2 of them garnering significant attention for All-NFL rookie teams and the other being a 1st round pick.

The LB in the NFL is changing, and that's a great thing for JRM.

All three will most likely get go back to school grades.

Cam might get a 2nd round grade, but honestly I don't think he will be a first 2 round guy. He had an off year at CB. Special teams he was great this year!

IMHO I don't think Kamara would be rated better than a 3rd rounder at this time and probably more like 4-6. Running backs are not as much in demand in the NFL as they were 10-15 years ago. However good corners are at a premium and Sutton is likely ready. JRM is probably right on the border line between being ready or playing another year at UT to improve his stock.
