After looking at this pitiful list of vetted coaches, I really think we need to get a coach from the NFL. I think Jeff Fisher or someone of that caliber with a top staff and strong recruiters could be a great coach at TN.

I just don’t see a coordinator or mid major or lower successful coach doing really well in the SEC. I think the UTAD and our dummie boosters will screw this up, just like usual, and hire a guy nobody is excited about.

Many fans will be unhappy about it, like me, and then take a wait and see approach. Because we’ve been down this road 4x before in the past 12 years, each “brick” in the wall gets progressively worse. As it gets worse, our fan-hood wanes. Soon, we won’t want to watch this sorry product anymore.

If we bring in NFL level coaches then it’s clear that the coaching is top notch. We would just need to recruit well and start winning games to keep things rolling upward.

If we go the college route, it could work but only if we find that special diamond 💎 coach out there.
Without a college coach like a Freeze or Kiffin on board, then we should be looking for the next Urban type of coach that shot up quickly with incredible records, but the school wasn’t too small. I’m not sure it’s out there, or that they would come to our forest fire 🔥.

We cannot get Gruden, but why wouldn’t we take another NFL coach like Jeff Fisher? Probably just makes too much sense lol... I think the NFL route is the best way to upgrade our dismal perception and get in a higher grade of coaches that will guide us back out of the wilderness.

Fisher would be a great fit.

If they are going to go after an NFL coach it would be Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett.

Not sure why you think an NFL coach transitions well to college. Lots of factors in college that don't exist in pro and vice versa.

Recruiting and babysitting are two major issues not present in the pro side of the game.

I do agree that we need an established coach but an established college coach.

Fisher’s NFL record is marginally better than Gruden’s, and it’s better than Saban’s. I think he’d be worth a shot.
I would throw up if I had to deal with that mustache. On top of that he has never been a good coach in my opinion.

I just want one thing; a winner. When I say that I mean a proven track record. If that comes via NFL or P5 (some non P5 as well) whichever I’ll get behind it. Still shocked we got DW as AD riding this wave and pretty excited about it so I’m hoping he brings in that “winner” we’re all looking for.

Yea but who? A guy from Buffalo? A guy from SMU? These schools are jokes. Butch Stones had a better resume than these fools... I think Steele would be better than the college coaches were looking at, which is pitiful honestly.

That’s why we need to look to the NFL. Those are the best coaches period.

A lot of former titan players in high school coaching now so he would probably be a decent recruiter. Honestly I think fisher could be great if he gets the right coordinators in place and let’s them do their job.

The realistic option for any NFL coach to be hired at the college level is a former NFL head coach or current coordinator. No current NFL head coach will make the switch to becoming a college head coach.

I already mentioned Nathaniel Hackett. Another name worth mentioning would be Shane Steichen. We saw the success Herbert had playing in Steichen's offense this past season with the Chargers. I read where the Eagles are going to interview him for their current OC opening. Wouldn't hurt to try and reach out and see what kind of interest is there from both.

Fisher was fired in his last stint as head coach. You make some good points but at age 62 how long would Fisher be here.

Steele is better than some of those options. However, I don't think there is a compelling argument to be made that a NFL coach is going to be better at the college level.

Malhzan may not be the savior but I would take a chance on him before an NFL guy. Too many differences between college and pro.

Why?

You wrote a whole lot, and explained nothing. Not one thing.

High school kids have no idea who he is. Can he handle the recruiting grind ? Can he give us 10 years
I don't know, but if White is getting turned down by top targets, it wouldn't hurt to interview him to see if he had a plan and could put together a college coaching staff.

I would rather have Jerod Mayo then some of these clown coaches from bozo schools. The college recruiting game is largely about booster cheating. But we need top coaches that care about TN and know how to win ball Games.

At this point bring back the Cooter!!

Anthony Lynn ex-chargers HC just hired by the Lions. Knows offense and well liked. Replaced Tyrod Taylor at QB this year with Hebert 3 games into season. Also think he was RB coach at Denver while Peyton was there for a few years. Isn't Peyton in on this search? There's a lot of good coaches out there than folks realize and many are in the NFL but started as grad assts. in college. Biggest complaint from them is by far, they simply don't care for recruiting.

Smh...there were at least 3 threads on Fisher. The guy has NEVER coached in college. Running a college program v coaching a NFL team is vastly different. Career NFL guys typically do not have a high level of success in CFB. Pete Carroll is an exception.
