I used to live in the south and the people really are great. I always go to the big OOC games at Autzen and I will be there in 2013 for Tennessee. I have heard many great things about the treatment our fans got and I will definately be opening up my tailgate for any Vols who want to party.

It is hard to tell, from the size of the stadium and how spread-out we were, but if any of you Vols could comment on the loudness of the Oregon traveling fans vs. other traveling fans you've heard in similar numbers, I'd love to hear your perspective.

Oregon fans were loud and up there with other groups of away fans I've seen at Neyland. I'd give an edge to Florida or Alabama fans though but that may be due to the fact they routinely bring 10,000 plus fans.

For limited numbers you guys were loud, but as mentioned when Florida or Bama are in town they get louder simply because of the numbers they have.

Not only was it loud but the friggin ground was shaking from 108,000+ jumping up and down in celebration. I mean I literally thought to myself "I hope Neyland doesn't collapse..."

If Autzen can beat that I'd be shocked.

I think the fact that it's comparable with 40,000 fewer people is enough.

My mother who now lives in eastern WA used to spend summers near Gatlinburg has always said that east TN and western Oregon are remarkably similar in scenery.

Wonder how well the Pride played Oregon's fight song. I don't think Oregon brought their band so I'm sure their fans enjoyed hearing it.

I think it's great that Oregon fans were impressed. I walk by Neyland everyday and it never gets old. I can't imagine walked up to that behemoth of a structure for the first time as an opposing fan. It's absolutely stunning. All of the Oregon fans I encountered seemed to really care and asked questions about our tradition. I wish we had won, but I didn't really hear any boasting from the Oregon fans. Hell, someone said "Take care of UF and we'll take care of Kiffin" That mutal hate for all things Trojan was kinda cool.

Conclusion: some fans think Autzen is louder, some give the edge to Neyland.

They are both impressive for different reasons. Autzen is cozy, people say it's like The Swamp where the fans are right next to the field. Neyland is like the Big House (though much louder) where its sheer size can be intimidating.

Sadly I could not make the Knoxville trip, but I hope to be at Autzen in 2013 and would love to talk to some of you guys in person and see what you think.

P.S. Here are some great quotes about Autzen, hope you enjoy them!

My wife and I made it into Knoxville on Thursday night. We had an amazing time. I loved taking a tour of your beautiful campus and spending time on "the strip." With the exception of the guy who kept throwing peanuts at me during the game every UT fan I met was hospitable and friendly. I loved the tradition and pagentry of the weekend. The Vol walk was great, your tailgating is a blast, I couldn't help but sing Rocky Top about 100 times over the weekend and to see so many people dressed in one color is intimidating. Our seats were in the lower bowl Section V Row 26. As far as the noise level I have to say from my one experience at Neyland compared to numerous trips to Autzen, Autzen is louder. It did get loud in the first quarter but the noise level at Autzen can be ear splitting and physically uncomfortable at times. I also noticed that the crowd would still be loud even when UT was on offense. Oregon fans yell for almost every defensive snap in the game, but are almost silent when the team goes on offense. Granted Oregon is not a rival game for UT and fans bring it a little more for those games. The sight of 100k+ with such vertical seating was visually impressive. I hope a lot of you can make it out to Eugene in a few years to experience our stadium, campus....etc. Thank you again for being such great hosts. We loved every bit of our time there (except the peanut throwing guy) and hope to come back again someday.

I have left Autzen and had my head foggy with my ears ringing for literally 3 hours. It is *dangerously* loud when the crowd wants it to be.

absolutely yes it was ear splitting. I had a pounding headache halfway through the first quarter and had to stop screaming for a little while, but that didn't even matter. The noise around me made it worse regardless if I was cheering or not

Haha...you weren't. I actually had a couple sit behind me. I don't see the need for a couple to have 2 fanny packs, but I guess they had lots of cough drops and kleenex to carry around. Jorts were also very popular with the UCLA people...

the loudest i've ever heard neyland was the end of the '98 arkansas game... and we were several thousand below capacity at that point

I've heard that, for a while now too, and can't wait to experience Autzen for myself in '13.

Ever since I watched --whats it called, "The Civil War"--Oregon v. Oregon state (or is that Wash v. Wash State???)--about 10 yrs ago and how relentless Autzen's crowd was, I was hooked. Don't ask me when it was b/c I dunno but it was when Ken Simonton (I think that was his name) played for Oregon State.

I know that's a piss poor example but gimme a break I don't pay attention to Pac 10 at all.

Indeed but acoustics are everything, that's why the Ryman in Nashville is the best venue for a concert, and it seats a very small number of people--had to get a shot in :)

In all seriousness though--I've wanted to go to Autzen for a very very long time and I can't wait for '13.

Correct, the Civil was is UO-OSU. UW-WSU is the Crappl-- I mean Apple Cup.

Judging from your very good recollection, I'd say you saw the 2001 game that was pouring down rain and had very poor play from both sides.

It's funny you mention it because it was won by a punt return that I was instantly reminded of with Kenjon Barner's return.

Sitting right beside a Duck and he said that its like a jet going off when the crowd gets loud there. I just laughed at him. I mean 107,000 vs. 60,000. I'll go with the larger crowd.

Well, I for one plan on making the trip to Autzen to find out for myself what all the fuss is about ,and give an accurate assessment from a Vol's point of view. Not that my opinion matters ,but I am sure as heck gonna tell the people that didn't go about it.
