Neyland vs Autzen

If you were at the game, would you describe what you heard as "ear-splitting?"

Autzen's reputation is based on that kind of platitude whenever a (quality) opponent is up on the line of scrimmage trying to execute a play.

I have left Autzen and had my head foggy with my ears ringing for literally 3 hours. It is *dangerously* loud when the crowd wants it to be.

Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly-

On the environment at Neyland Stadium:

"That's an unbelievable environment to play in out there. I mean, this place is impressive. I tell my players all the time `Don't look at the stadium,' but I was looking at the stadium."

When Tennessee beats Florida on a last second field goal, I'd say there's a good chance that "ear-splitting" would be an accurate term.
Losing to a good OOC team 48-13 probably won't get much ear-splitting sound. FWIW, though, up until the rain, it had to have been at a pretty high decibel level

'04 was a pretty good year.

When you guys were rolling in the first half, Neyland was as loud as Autzen, at least where I was sitting. Two of the three loudest Oregon home games ever were with OOC opponents: Michigan & Oklahoma. So, Autzen will be rockin' when you folks arrive, especially if the Vols are ranked. Bring your plugs if you're sitting in a Duck section.

BTW, thanks for the wonderful hospitality. Never a better reception anywhere.

Heard some folks on local radio and talked to others that went to the game and the consensus seems to be that neyland and autzen are at their loudest things are about equivalent.

I do wonder how that translates to on field noise though. The seats are ridiculously close to the field in eugene.

Fred Fisher told me that when he played against the Vols in the 70's (he played QB for Vanderbilt), that the noise wasn't as loud on the field as it was above them. Of course, Neyland has changed sinced then.

I dont know about the noise level but it was pretty clear they were in awe of the neyland stadium and tennessee tradition. The duck fans were pretty classy.

I met several ducks tailgating, and they were all respectful, but they all cautioned me to not expect the same thing when I go to the left coast in 3 years. Maybe they were just nice because they felt like "ducks out of water" if you will.

When I marched in the Pride, I couldn't even hear myself playing when we opened the "T." I'm not sure how that compares to how loud it is on the field during the game though.

The duck fans I talked to said when they were in the lower bowl it was very loud but when they were next to the river it wasnt so loud.
I thought it was the loudest game of the past 2 years

That was almost earsplitting on TV.

I'm going to try my best to make it to Oregon for the rematch. I can't wait to hear an actual comparison for myself.

well, i dont know about fans from oregon. did you see how it affected the duck offense in the first half? if autzen is that loud then why did they have so many false starts and a delay of game

I talked to a handful of Oregon fans after the game and they all said the stadiums were very comparable and that they were blown away by Neyland and by how hospitable our fans were.

There were like 2 or 3 false starts the entire game, and two of them charged to TE Brandon Williams who is a JC transfer that arrived in the offseason, playing in his first road game with the Ducks fwiw.

Also.. it's not like we are loud when OUR team is on offense. :p

Lol, I was thinking the same thing. Why would their OFFENSE be used to a loud stadium.

Because they're still in there, they're at least used to hearing it. It's not like the Buffalo Bulls coming in and all of a suddent being blown away. Regardless of whether or not they're on the field when the noise happens, having heard that amount of sound doesn't hurt when you finally have to hear it when you're on the field.

I haven't been to Autzen ,and bank account willing I plan on going in 2013 ,but I'm just about willing to bet you can hear a conversation across the stadium when the Ducks go out on offense. I got so mad Sat night when the fans started singing Rocky Top when we were on offense. Sure I'm one of the loudest ppl there when we're on defense and I love having spirit ,but come on shut that stupid band up sit down and drink your drink when our unexperienced offense takes the field.
