Hello to all. Gamecockfan here making my first trip ever to Knoxville this weekend from Flordia. One of my best friends is a VFL, living in Nashville and he will be driving over to meet us in Knox. Other Friend is a UCF alum but a die hard Florida State fan lol. He is impartial and just looking to have a great time. We are staying at the Baymont by Wyndham I-75 so we will probably uber to bars and nightlife and uber to the stadium on Saturday. We are all in our mid/late 20's to early 30's. Any recommendations on bars to visit or places to eat? I heard there is an awesome German brewery with good food too somewhere. Also we are sitting in Section Z14 row 50. I was told the lower portion up to about row 30 is visitor seating. Will there be a good amount of Gamecocks up there where we are or will it be all orange or a mix? Thank y'all and I'm excited for my first trip to Knox!!!

Like to welcome you to Big Orange Country. You will definately have a great time. There are a lot of pre-game activities near the stadium and you should go down to the water and see the Vol Navy. If you tell them you are visiting, some will invite you aboard and show you around their boats. If you are staying on I-75, I think you will be at the Merchants Road exit. There are a lot of places to eat there. You should try to go to Fountain City and eat at Littons. A lot of UT people go there (coaches, players and ex-players) but they won't likely be there on Saturday due to the game. Go to the Old City and party. Lots of bars and clubs there, within walking (or stumbling) distance to Neyland Stadium and UT. Have fun!

Minimum post requirement j/k...kinda

Calhouns is a must. Copper celler is good too. Chesapeake is one of my favorites. Youll have fun on the strip for younger guys. There are usually plenty of cocks there. Its much better than Columbia....lol

I'll give you a dollar if you can go 10 days and respond to the topic instead of the poster.

Might be a bit spendy depending on your budget but J.C. Holdway is by far the best restaurant in Knoxville.

It's owned by the only James Beard award winning chef in Tennessee.

There will be USCjr fans through out the stadium. You guys usually show up pretty good. Please don't do that annoying "Go Cocks" cheer. It just sounds wrong.

Enjoy your trip. Safe travels. And Go Vols!

I consider it and Lonesome Dove #1a/b. Other excellent choices downtown are Oliver Royale, Emilia, Kefi (Greek), Nama (sushi), Stock and Barrel (burgers), and a'Dopo (wood fired authentic Italian pizza).

TBH, Littons is one of the most overrated spots around. There are at least a dozen places to get a better burger in much nicer settings. I'd say the same about Ye Olde Steak House.

Schulz Brau is the brewery it is fantastic. Old city is definitely the spot for bars/clubs. Try Sweet Ps Downtown Dive BBQ. Best in town, not too expensive, good local beers also.

Market Square and Gay Street (don't be fooled by the name) has a nice collection of restaurants and watering holes, all within walking distance of the stadium.

The Stock & Barrel has a great collection of bourbons, and a great burger (but it can get pricey). I also like Chivo Taqueria (good food / good tequila). But, the Preservation Pub might a good stop for someone around your age (also in Market Square).

Welcome to Knoxville; I hope you enjoy your stay.

Go Vols!

As previously answered, Shulz Brau is the German brewery you were probably referencing. Barley's in the Old City is also good. And there are some places on Market Square.

Despite what all the East Tennesseans on here say, Calhoun's is vastly overrated because of Rule #1 of BBQ: the farther from the Mississippi River, the worse the BBQ.

And since you guys are in your late 20s/early 30s, you definitely don't want to go to Littons. Except for the little kids being babysat by their grans, you'd be the youngest people there.

And anybody who says you'll have fun on the Strip hasn't been to Knoxville in a while -- there aren't any bars on it anymore. Sunspot does have decent food. Just off the Strip is Cool Beans where the college kids hang.
