Neyland Stadium Renovations - Updated

The south side (SS) renovations are on hold for a few reasons. One, the building underneath the south side stands is still in use. Without anywhere to move the groups using this space, nothing will happen. Not sure if this has been addressed. I know there is a new building bding finished on the other side of the hill, which has massive square footage.

The Kao Building is scheduled to be finished in 2011. UT broke ground on the Tickle Building on Neyland Drive in 2009 with plans to begin construction in the very near future. I believe all depts. in the stadium, as well as Estabrook and Berry will have moved to new or different facilities with the completion of these projects.

I think this is right. I know the initial plan was to renovate Eastabrook, but it had structural problems. Hence, the new Tickle Building. I'm fairly certain Eastabrook will be coming down in the next couple of years.

The University plans to build a new anthropology building, so those offices in South Stadium Hall can be moved in order to complete renovations on that part of the stadium.

Over on VQ they had a Q&A with MH, he said that the stadium renovations for Gate 21 will be completed by Sept 4th. He said that their will be some small things not completed that fans wont be able to notice but the contractors will. He also said before Sept 4th they will be adding 7 tree's to the plaza & they will be sodding the Amphitheater.

That is what I was hoping for!

I was hoping it wouldn't be just a flat open plaza.

Thanks.

i can up date pics at 8 am in the morning. i was there today and took about 50 pictures. tennessee terrace, the field etc. my mom works for the construction company who is doing almost all of UT's buildings

Does anyone know if this is still the plan for what Neyland will look like on the side closest to the river?

I personally wish that the back of the jumbotron would still have the power T. That was a great sight to see.

I think that UT has done an excellent job of transforming several areas of campus w/ the addition of trees ... in 10 years, the pedestrian mall and the area around humanities will look terrific

The back of the JumboTron should have the General in the middle and Phillip and Johnny on each side. JMO. I have mucho respect for EB but he wasn't as important as those three coaches.

Agreed.

Now about that 8am update of pictures....

Yes, the South Endzone will eventually look like the Gate 21 area and West Sideline. I think they are going to take a year or 2 off from Construction.

A few trees, or something, would look nice among all of that concrete..but, it still looks GREAT though!

I just wonder if eventually they tear down the alumni memorial building? Can't imagine them doing that, but just a thought I had, and thinking about how much more space they would have around that side of the stadium outside.

There will be 7 trees planted through the area!

they might wait until later in the fall to do so. At least that would make sense to me... sometime in October when moisture demand from the leaves is minimal or non-existent.

Never gonna happen. That was the original gym. If they tore it down, I'd be very, very upset.

It was reported they would be planting them just before the first game.

Accurate? Not sure.

AMB is now home to some of the largest/newest lecture halls on campus. It's actually really nice on the inside, especially the main hall (seats around 1,000). I'd say that building isn't going anywhere for a long, long time.

I know they are building a new engineering building, so I wonder if that means they will be tearing down Estabrook Hall that's on the east side of the stadium? That's a really old building. Actually, I like the old buildings as long as they can be renovated and used. Ayres Hall, on the hill, is almost completed and I think will be ready by January. It looks really nice.

Yep...I have Economics in there and the lecture hall is very nice.
