Neyland Stadium Renovations - Updated

No mention of the railings being painted.

If you walked down Peyton Manning Pass and straight into the stadium, that is where it will be.

I thought it was going to be more towards the right of that, close to gates 11 and 12.

Sure they can. It's done all the time. Over the street.

It's probably too far - as long as they can get the spots nearer the entrance.

Seems like they would make room on the east or south side for that, though; considering this entrance is sort of their showpiece.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :hi:

The TV networks are not willing to run cables across the street so they can be run over by cars and busses for three days (They set up on Wednesday and Thursday). We're not talking five or six cables here. An ESPNHD broadcast crew has over 100 wires that are run into the TV truck. The conduit that carries them (that you're wanting to run across the street) is about the same size around as a semi-truck tire. Not to mention the fact that the staium is already pre-wired with all of the conduits leading to the area where the trucks are currently parked. UT spent almost $100k re-wiring the stadium for HD last year, and that would all have to be redone.

You also have the issue of the donors that pay quite the extra sum to use that lot. They're not going to take out 20-30 spaces for the 5 TV trucks that ESPN or CBS use for basically no reason. There is no reason to move the TV trucks. None.

Sculpture installed on University of Tennessee pedestrian mall Knoxville News Sentinel

Every member of the committee that voted for her to create this postmodern abortion should be shamed.

It looks like a turnip from marioworld cut up by an infomercial slicer and dipped in aluminum with chintzy Christmas lights below

OVER the street, as I said, specifically. So the "run over by cars" stuff is just horse****. Putting wires and cables OVER,OVER,OVER streets Is. Done. Every. Day.

As you know so much about the size of the cables and everything, seems you would know that construction crews displacement of wires and cables-even bigger than what you describe is done all the time. Not permanently, usually...but done often. You must think the telephone wire to your house is being run over right now.

They may not do it...but it is very easy to do. They just put up two poles and a catwalk-like thing over the street. I can't believe I had to explain that to an adult. Jeez!

Your first sentence tells it all in one word..."willing".

Most of us don't see all of that stuff as we are only around when it is completed. I doubt it is a turnoff for a recruit.

I see it every day. It is an eyesore and brings a new inconvenience with it every few months. I'm sure the ripped up hillside outside of AMB looked beautiful to recruits. It will probably still be worth it though. The stadium was showing it's age.

At no point in that rant did you answer the question of why any of that is necessary, when there's a perfectly good location that has been used for years.

If you would cease blowing the media for a few seconds you might know the answer-for the same reason they have renovated the stadium. It looks pleasing to the eye. Teevee trucks don't.

If they could make them a good place that's not so obvious and an eyesore to boot, it would look as the designers' intended for it to look. Do you see any teevee trucks w/ cable, wires, etc. in the drawings?

But a catwalk leading from the stadium to the parking lot across the street would look better?

Yea, I am sure it sucks for you guys that have to deal with it during the summer.

I am sure recruits would rather see work being done than old stuff being left alone.

Did Deerpark run over your dog? Good lord. And a catwalk across the crowd to setup trucks in the middle of the tailgating and Salute to the Hill crowds? No thanks.

I don't really think so, no-but it wouldn't put so much "stuff" near the new stadium entrance and plaze and the "cable carrier" could be up at the corner, with the cables going over Alumn following the road. Would hardly be noticed.

What I am really saying...I hope you understand...is that there should be a place for all the media stuff somewhere out of sight where the intentions of the architects could be seen by all of us (not me, I'm 2500 miles away) as fans. Maybe that's in the next phase. It just seems to me that parking a bunch of trucks and equipment there makes the plaze and the new entrance not look as good. IOW, a lot of trouble for more clutter.

Read on about doing it at the corner. You might agree with me. If you don't, that's cool.

Deerpark has probably seen cables & wires run over roads many times. Maybe he just forgot. You? Look outside.

All I was suggesting was that I hoped the plaza might should be able to be seen by the fans, that's all. Step out of the box for a second. It doesn't hurt.

You act like the trucks are going to be parked in the front entrance. It will be fine. I will even take a picture for you at the UT-Martin game. :)

Hey, that'd be cool. :eek:k:

Right now I'm just homesick for the Vols. I love the west...but....y'know what I mean.?

I would really like to see the new stuff in person for the first game. Gahd, I miss going to the stadium and hanging out on gameday. :cray:

A few pages back, someone mentioned potential plans to paint part of the stadium next year, including the beige/tan panels on the press box. Is that even a possibility?

As many here have stated, I too really like what they have done with Gate 21.

As for the West side, I'm pleased with the overall concept. Though it would be impossible to satisfy all preferences, I'll just throw in my 2 cents. I would rather have seen more brick on that side (further up) and cement-faced tiles/panels in place of the steel. Seems like it might have blended better with the classic style of Gate 21 and other buildings on campus. But that may have not been very practical.

However, if the press box panels are at least painted the same color as the concrete trim above the arches, it could help. JMO.

Anyway, it all looks, much, much better than before.

Oh Yeah, in case it hasn't been mentioned, UT bookstore has now taken over Traditions at Neyland.. don't know if it's been made bigger or not but will still offer some good shopping...

GO VOLS..
GO BIG ORANGE ...

I'm sure it's been posted somewhere on here already, but I can't find it...

Is the student section moving over to the other sideline with the Vols or will they remain on the new visitors sideline? Just curious.

From my understanding, they are not getting the first 20 rows anymore, so that it complies with SEC rules.
