Here is the new .pdf file (10MB) which outlines some of the renovations projects. The new press box rendering reminds me of the outside of a movie theater.

The renovations look good on screen, but I want to see it in person to make my decision if it is any good. The East end does look very good.

How could it be bad? I hate to say it, but the facade of Neyland Stadium resembles an erector set. It's just not a very attractive building.

The outside of the stadium should look much better once done. The proposed brick and iron work covering the steel skeleton will look outstanding.

That new look is looking pretty sweet to me. I agree with you GA, Neyland has never been that attractive on the outside. But the inside is what counts (atmosphere), and it is always incredible

snazzy!

but, somehow i miss my old home (mid 60s).

5th floor, south stadium hall. not much to look at, but it was cheap and handy. looking at this production (and the ticket prices), 'cheap' doesn't come to mind.

I realize college football has become big business in the USA but I like for college stadiums to look like college stadiums, not NFL venues. A little "rough around the edges". I actually like the way Neyland looked in the 80's and 90's (before the latest addition and Jumbo tron).
But I guess we have to keep up with the times. I am sure this will look great when finished.

Me too man. I'm as happy as anyone about the improvements, but there is some romanticism for the steel beams, small concourses, and pre-Suxodex/good Smokey Dog days.

I had an Economics Lab on 5th floor SSH.

Does anyone know when the exterior renovations are scheduled to be completed?

Will the upgrades effect the seating capacity? Also, will it effect the acoustics (loudness) of the stadium?

The upgrades already reduced capacity from 104,000+ to 102,000+ and it's suppose to go down a little more. By the end, I think we are suppose to have a little over 100,000.

The upgrades are causing me to loose my two seats that I've been in since 1982. The West Club seats will over take me...and Lord knows I can't afford to get two of those Club seats to stay where I'm at now. I keep trying for the Lottery though. LOL I'm anxious (and a little nervous) to see where I'm going to be relocated to. As a band alumni, I've sure enjoyed the upper deck on the west side to watch half-time. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

the brick is going to look great but based on my recent dealings with a contractor i have to say holy cow it is going to be expensive. i'm not sure the projected $100mil will cover it.

glad to hear that the final capacity will still exceed 100k. i had heard that it was going to be in the mid 90k range after the renovation.

Which renovations will be completed by the home opening UAB game? Is it just the brick wall surrounding the field, or will part of the outside be finished as well?

Originally, I had heard the renovations would cost in the neighborhood of $110 million, give or take a few million. According to the PDF packet the topic starter posted, however, it's going to cost $200 million. I may just be behind on my Neyland Stadium news, but that's pretty surprising to me.

Edit - Another quick question: provided the funds will be available, the whole thing is set to be done somewhere around 2015, right?

it really makes me mad that the evil ad wants to take away seats just to earn a little more money....:banghead2::nono::furious3::censored::bad::the_finger:

I can't believe that starting in 2009, they're not allowing anyone over 200 pounds into the stadium so they can squeeze more people in the seats. That's a little ridiculous if you ask me.
