Is it worth the money to see & hear a concert at Neyland from a Skybox?

First - and don't get me wrong, one of my best friends is a Clemson Alum - the stadium is 20 K less than Neyland.

Second - Clemson is a lot closer to major Metro areas then Knoxville.

Third - If you compare the two, Memorial Coliseum is actually a little better set up for a concert than Neyland...much more "vertical" in the North/South sides.

SO let me ask this question in here - knowing what we know regarding BIG, ESTABLISHED names needed to draw the "sellout" and the geographic / demographic area - Who do you think would be the best concert in Neyland?

Beating the Florida Gators 50 to 0....

Why do we not open the stadium for concerts/big events? During the spring and summer months it isn't really used much...the school could make a lot of money leasing out the behemoth that is Neyland. I know Billy Graham spoke there and Kenny Chesney did a show there in 2003, but I haven't heard anything since then.

I know most shows are just at TBA or the Civic center, but it seems awfully silly to me to not make some money off our resources. But maybe there is something I am missing...

Number of reasons:

1. People complain about the turf now, just put a couple of concerts on it and see what it looks like.

2. Most entertainers do not want a venue that large it is simply too big. Even when they do CMA at LP field the capacity is only a little over 50K.

3. You have to be very selective about when you use it because of the lack of parking anywhere near the place.

4. Net income would be nice but not as much as you think. It takes a lot to open the place up.

I'm sure the stadium is open to any big-name act who wants to use it. Along with paying 80% of what they make in taxes to the city of Knoxville.

Keep trying to cover your stupid comment but outdoor concerts happen all the time. And what makes you think LP Field is so much cheaper to insure than Neyland? For a concert, they would seat close to the same.

Here's another one...the Dead is playing at Levi Stadium and Soldier Field this summer.
...in lower numbers for reason aforementioned by other posters. Jeeeez, boca. You need to chill. Bottom line is, even though outdoor events will always be thrown and in grand fashion, there are fewer of them and they're farther between. Mentioning where they're still happening doesn't erase the fact that they're not quite as numerous as they used to be....as per all those pre-stated reasons and many more. Get over yourself. As for your use of the word "stupid:" You're over your head.

There aren't that many tours that warrant being held in football stadiums. U2, the Stones, the Dead.

The Zac Brown Band is playing in MLB stadiums this summer...Boston, Philly, etc.

Last year One Direction played in football stadiums. This year, Taylor Swift is...at least in Tampa.

They happen, but you see them in larger metro areas...and yes (by nature) there are fewer of them. Just like there are more bands that play in bars vs auditoriums vs arenas vs small stadiums vs large stadiums.

I have a question about Neyland maybe someone can help me with... I have an uncle with a disability ( muscular dystrophy ) he is not in a wheel chair, and i am looking to take him to a game this year. What seats should i get? I am looking for the shortest rout to seats with no stairs if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have seached online for a few weeks with no results. Thanks in advance, GBO

Does Knoxville have that many big concerts/ events? I know the entertainment tax is a big reason more acts don't come.

I remember the Jackson 5 playing in Neyland in 1984(ish).

They dont. Its a shame

Not 100 percent sure, as I haven't needed the service, but I believe if you call the UT ticket office and explain the situation they will pretty much bend over backwards to help you make this an experience you or he will never forget.

GOOD LUCK my friend!!!

In 2006 I went to an outdoor concert in LA. KROQ Inland Invasion. Started at 1pm, ended at 3am with Guns n Roses headlining...or at least Axl Rose and his new friends playing GNR songs. Either way, it kicked @$$ and it was outdoors. Around 80,000 people were there.

Outdoor concerts literally happen all the time. Big ones too. Doing one at a place like Neyland in the spring/summer months would not be as risky as some of you think.

Years ago there was concern due to the caverns that exist below the field level that could collapse and create a mess on the field. When the World's Fair was here there was an NFL exhibition game played here and the News Sentinel or the Koxville Journal had an article in the paper on why the field isn't used more. The story was the school didn't want to do it because o the possible risks to the field.

I know when they removed the turf and went back to grass not too long ago they had a lot of earth moving equipment on the field and they did have some sink holes they had to fill to level the field again.

This is EXACTLY why we need to stand up during the games! If we have our fat rears on the seats, it has to be more weight than on our tiny little feet. Right? Any Physics Majors out there that can back me up on this?

I think if you put Neyland in a large city like Detroit, Dallas or even Nashville...I bet Neyland would be used. Nashville is a bigger city to host bigger names. Makes sense.
