Neyland Stadium now cashless venue?

I'm just unsure what significant info the govt gets from knowing my grocery purchases or Arby's order? Sure, they can pinpoint where I am, but I carry a cellphone so they won't really have a problem there.

How are they going to leverage my preference for double stuf Oreos or chicken thighs or half pound roast beef sandwiches against me?
Honestly, I love being tracked and served ads for stuff I like. eBay and Amazon totally have my number.

I think it’s a fear of the unknown really, which isn’t my traditional brand.

Although, by tracking my purchases, they also get my progressive location, my travel habits, my income, class, and race demographics, my reading habits, my political tendencies, my religion, and all sorts of information we used to respect as “nobody’s business.”

Certainly all of this stuff is presently used to predict my behavior for profit, catering to what I tend to want - which often isn’t what I need, or what’s best for me. In this way, I (and most other folks) are being manipulated by my own greed. Hey, I just admitted I’m letting it happen.

But if I can be manipulated for profit by my own greed, how might entities motivated by other goals manipulate me with other sinful tendencies - wrath, lust, vanity, pride, gluttony, etc.?

You could make the argument the political parties are feasting on pride and wrath with regularity.

Did I mention I deleted Facebook and Instagram recently?

…aaaand cue the tinfoil hat memes!

First, seperate people from wealth. Create a chain of possession between people and their money, and insure that the exchange of money cannot be done by two people alone.

Then take control of a few links in the chain. In so doing, you now control the people.

Maybe you use it for good. Maybe you use it for evil. Maybe you don't use it at all.

But you will always have control of the chain, and control over the flow of money, and in so doing? Control over the people bound to it.

(I'm not even a conspiracy nut, but the idea of "cashless" societies frightens the living crap out of me.)
Isn’t the govt. adding some type of Bitcoin into the system? ( a pyramid scheme). Rather use credit cards & pay off at end of month.

This is the post I was looking for. Control is control.

Like many people my age, I primarily use credit cards for everything, but I also carry cash in case of emergency. Despite what I typically use for purchases, there is something truly disturbing about this decision. I don’t like it one bit.

I guess I could decide not to like it, but since I don’t think I’ve used cash in Neyland Stadium (or anywhere else on campus) in well over a decade, I’ll pass on this manufactured angst.

carrying legal tender. cash. is not difficult either. the only problem i see is today’s society has no idea how to properly give out change!!! they absolutely have no idea how to write a check. sad world we are living in
This - my wife (2nd grade teacher) and I were discussing this topic a few hrs ago. Folks can’t do simple math in their head.

So how do you get your soft drink from the highschooler when you are 25 seats away from the aisle? Are you going to pass your card? I do t think so.
You would pay online using the app, giving your section and seat location. The vendor would pass it down like the old days in the 90’s - good times. I’d never leave my seat yet buy a coke and dog every game.

Is a government a better master than a big business?

I’m not sure it is. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Is the only viable third alternative economic chaos?

Oh the musings of the two weeks between start of school and football…

I should play golf tomorrow.
I'm not saying one way or the other. It's just the idea that paper money is somehow a pillar of "freedom" rings hollow for me and most of the arguments for cash boil down to that. At the end of the day I think people just don't like change.

But yeah, football needs to start already

Certainly, they all play to our tribal nature and exploit us vs them, but one could argue religion, merchants, etc do also.

You don't associate with THEM, do you? For shame..... good people associate with us. You still shop THERE? My, my, my, I thought you'd become successful enough to shop with us now, but I suppose you're not really one of us.

If something is being offered for free, very often you are the product that is being sold. Lots of us trade "loyalty discounts" for info and we trade tap convenience for info.

I try to avoid tinfoil but I'm not naive. I'm sold daily as much as any streetwalker.

My Internet provider knows what websites I visit, my TV provider knows what I watch, my phone carrier knows where I go, my cards tell where I shop.

So, no internet, no TV, no phone, and no cards? C'mon. We're discussing this on the web. We're all past the point of seriously worrying about our privacy by miles and miles.
