Neyland is a sight to behold because its so massive. I think that's because it wraps completely around. Stadiums with comparable size still don't have the presence that Neyland does because everywhere you look theres stadium

Several years ago I had the opportunity to see a Nebraska home game. At the time they had only 1 bathroom for each side of the stadium. Good fans, very polite but the facility looked like an overgrown hs stadium. Nothing like good ole Neyland.....

I saw ALABAMA at LSU on a Saturday night a few years ago. Tailgating was awesome and it was the loudest stadium I have ever heard. That said, Neyland with its backdrop is the best in the nation.

As far as college stadiums the only one I've been to is Aloha Stadium, as a spectator and a player, so I really can't compare Neyland to other college venues..but, one of my good friends, a huge Oklahoma Sooner fan, wanted to stop over on his way back home from Afghanistan, so we thought we'd take him to Knoxville and experience SEC atmosphere. Couldn't have picked a better time to visit than Georgia week. Any way, he was blown away and this guy has been to most of the venues in the Big 12. After the game, he was still in awe. Told me that the Big 12 doesn't have anything like Neyland in regard to the noise. He was so impressed with Neyland, the Strip, the fans, etc.. that before we left Knoxville, we had to stop by a few places on the strip so he could stock up on Vols gear. He now follows the Vols just as closely as his beloved Sooners.

Other than Neyland I've been to all the SEC East stadiums and Bama and Mississippi St. in the west. Neyland is by far the loudest place I've been to, with the Swamp comming in second. It has the nicest setting and best fans in my, be it biased, opinion as well. That said, I've enjoyed going to games everywhere I've been.

In the SEC, I've been to Jordan-Hare, Legion Field, Bryant Denny, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Florida, and Georgia. I believe the total game day experience is the best at Neyland, but if you break it down by catagory

Tailgating Ole Miss
Loudness Neyland or Florida
Setting Neyland
Worst Legion Field or Vandy
Blandest Georgia

Out of the conference I have been to Grant Field, Liberty Bowl, the old Orange Bowl, Arrowhead Stadium, Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Colorado, Oklahoma. Total game day is far superior at Neyland, but I would give Colorado a strong second. There is no better setting in college football and Boulder is....well it's Boulder. Most disappointing is Nebraska, not good tailgating and atmosphere is .... polite. I go to 3-4 Kansas games a year, student section empties out by 3rd qtr., just not much tradition there. Pretty setting on campus, the stadium looks just like Neyland did when it was just a horseshoe. Thank Neyland Stadium in 1960, seats about 50,000. Arrowhead is by far the loudest pro stadium.

You have SEC stadiums.
And the rest.
With Neyland being right at the top of the SEC stadiums.

I'd really like to see Hamilton consider adding a triple deck at each end (plenty of stadiums across the country have triple decks), so that they level off with the press boxes/luxury suites.

2 things it would do...put us back on top as the largest stadium in the country (was a big recruiting draw...something to really hang our hats on), and provide an additional barrier to keep the noise in.

To make sure that we fill those additional seats, the ticket prices need to come down. With this team back in the thick of things in the SEC, they could sell 130,000...because TV just can't compete with the gameday atmosphere at Neyland.
I like the idea of a third deck also.maybe one on the side across from the jumbotron, just enough seats to beat michigan and penn state and give us the highest capacity.I know it would require major reconstruction and a lot of money but would make neyland even more awesome.feel free to blast me now.

Just change the chair backs in the north endzone upper deck to stadium seating and we would surpass everyone.

There is only one stadium that compares to Neyland and that is Death Valley in Baton Rouge.

+110,000, I'd love to see an artist rendering of this!

Stadium wise... the only one that compares to me is Bryant-Denney... although both crowds can be pretty team. That tends to happen when teams are used to long term success and the older fans settle in for a few decades.

Florida's stadium reminds me of some tourist trap off Route-66, but it is built to keep the noise in. Kentucky's is surprisingly nice, and the surroundings are pretty good too.

Still haven't been to Ole Miss, but debating it seriously.

And there is no way in hell we're selling 130k tickets, unless the third deck doesn't require a donation.

We are hardly reaching compacity as it is at 100,000 and the largest we've ever brought in was 109,000 that would make for a very empty stadium unless in the rare case that two top 5 teams were playing or something and even then I don't know if you'd get 130,000. It sounds awesome in concept but until we are selling out 100,000 seats and there is a huge waiting list for season tickets, nothing like that will happen.

i have been to darrel k. royal (texas) and raymond james (south florida). both were nice, ray jay is tampa's home stadium; so it was by far the nicest I've ever seen. I went there with Troy as a trainer when we were #1 in 1-aa and they kicked our butt. They nearly sold the place out for a 1-aa game. DKR was cool, as I was there for the A&M game last yr. It got LOUD where we were near the new expansion. Neyland is by far the best I've seen. the 98' game with arky was the loudest thing i've ever heard, 2nd only to 06' bama when foster dove over the top for the W.(I actually saw that one from the skyboxes) This yr, 1st half against auburn was really loud, too.

The real question here is: How do other stadiums compare to Neyland! The only reason it's been kinda quiet (up to this season) is because the product has been subpar. When the Vols are truly back it'll be business as usual, meaning that the TV cameras will be vibrating so badly that the picture won't be in focus....

Yea like when the Vols came out in black and then got 3 to's in the first three sc possessions.

I've been to just about all of 'em (except Arkansas, and Gainesville). Neyland is tops in my (ahem!!) unbiased opinion.... I do have to say that the prettiest girls I've seen are in Oxford, and the friendliest fans I've encountered are at Jordan-Hare. Auburn is a wonderful place to go to a game especially if you have your family with you. The fans are as nice as can be and you don't really have to worry about getting into any trouble unless you start some. Athens is the WORST I've personally been to. The stadium itself is actually pretty nice but the fans are unruly, overly obnoxious and I've never been there that someone wasn't trying to pick a fight with an opposing fan. I've actually seen more than a few fights (one of them in the stands at Sanford... the cops did ZILCH about it...) between two UGA fans.... LSU is cool before the game, not so much afterwards... especially if your team wins. Alabama suprisingly is a nice experience, at least the one time I went.... Everywhere else was for the most part unremarkable. That being said all I can say is "Rocky Top, you'll always be... HOME SWEET HOME TO ME!!!! Good 'ole Rocky Top.... Rocky Top Tennessee!!!"

Got to go to the USC ND game this year and ND's stadium wasn't that good. Campus was very nice but not having a replay scoreboard was horrible.

All we need is an airport within walking distance for the VOL Air Force and we would have all angles coverd

Thats the way Neyland used to be...I've been going to games since the mid to late 70's (family season tickets)....there have been times where the stadium was shaking so badly I actually wondered if it was dangerous....this happened EVERY game during the early to mid 90's especially during rivalry games....but IMHO...the crowd noise has for sure won us games....it at one point was deafning....on ESPN they used to always measure the noise with a decibel meter on live TV....it was usually over 120db....which is louder than a airplane...

I will say that in recent memory...the loudest i remember in a long time was the California game....it was LOUD ALL GAME LONG

I've been to Ole Miss, but the real show is in the tailgating. And the women.

I've been to South Carolina and it was pretty loud, but not that impressive.

I've been to Alabama and it was VERY loud. Really, really, loud.

I've been to Vanderbilt, which is always a joke. The only good thing about that stadium was the frozen lemonade.

I've been to a Memphis game which was like a Vandy game.

I've been to an Auburn game which was LOUD. It seemed like everyone had pom-poms. I don't know if it was just the game or what, but they were going crazy.

I've been to a Florida State game and it's something fun to be a part of to say the least. The tomahawk is really fun to do and they have easy cheers to remember. Plus the women there are mmmm.

I think I went to a Mississippi State game and a LSU game when I was younger with my step father, but I can't remember.

I've been to the Music City Bowl and the Cotton Bowl which were both very fun (especially the Cotton).

I've stood outside of West Virginia's stadium when they had a game and it was also loud, but I missed out on the game experience (which is something I regret).

I must say that when Tennessee is doing well and the fans are into it that Neyland is the loudest. The 2006 season is the loudest I've ever heard a stadium (LSU, Florida, Cal). All of those games were insane to be a part of, and I've never heard a stadium louder than when those games were going on.

I'm really eager to go to Autzen stadium when we play Oregon. I've heard a lot of crazy things about that place. Apparently the acoustics and dynamics of that stadium are so unique that players can hear individual fans' voices. It sounds like people are right next to you screaming in your ear. I want to experience that.

I also want to go see LSU, Florida, the Red River Shootout, Washington, USC, OSU, Michigan, ND, Wisconsin, WVU, Texas A&M, and several more bowl games.
I've got a lot of work to do haha.

I've been to half of the SEC's stadiums. LSU at night is exactly how it's described, you feel like you're inside a drum. Still partial to Neyland, but those idiot cajuns tailgate, drink and eat like you wouldn't believe down there. We attended with some LSU friends and they started at 10AM (for a 8PM game) and never let off the gas all day, probably got drunk and sobered up 3 times in the course of the day, was glad to get home.:mf_surrender:

Ive been to the following stadiums

Bryant Denny(6OT win over Bama) The stadium seemed like a dump. The field was nice however. Just walking through there were water pipes everywhere and water all over the floor. It was a long time ago and i was a kid, but i thought it was trashy... welcome to alabama :)

Vanderbilt- Nice stadium, small of course. Right in Nashville so thats a plus

Auburn(UTM vs Auburn) Went and saw my college play the Tigers. They had really nice facilities and beautiful campus Construction was going on, but still nice.

Neyland is my favorite(bias??) Especially since the renovations, i don't see why it wouldn't be one of the top stadiums in the SEC.

GO VOLS!
