Is it just me or does it seem like whomever announces over the PA at Neyland gets more excited when the opposing team scores or makes a first down than when we do?....I've noticed it for 5+ years now and just wondering if anybody else seems to notice it as well.

IDK about that but when the fumble that should have been was under review, people were throwing things on the field. The PA announcer asked that the fans not do that. Of course, we booed. Then he said "Thank you". HAHAHA How funny is that?:eek:lol:

i noticed him say "FIRSSSTT DOWWNN ALABAMA!" at one time and it really sounded like a pro-bama announcer.

That would be Bobby Denton....vice president and general manager of WIVK the flagship station of the VOL network. After nearly 39 years his voice is almost as recognizable as John Wards.

Probably just happy to see at least someone playing decent football in Neyland. Bobby has been at it a long time though, and that's just the way he goes about things. I wouldn't trade him for anything, except maybe a younger version of himself for "It's Football Time in Tennessee!"

He was just excited to see this foreign concept called a "First down". It's not often you will see an innovator around these parts that believes in moving the ball forward.

Tackle made by Dan Williams and a HOST of Volunteers. :salute:

I doubt he is more excited for Bama. I have grown up listening to him.

Hatvol please call UT Police at 974-3114 :good!:

Denton is great. But he's drunk by the first quarter, so that might explain why he isn't always on target with his calls. But, I enjoy his work. I say have at it BD!...

Traditional does not equal "good job." I've been either a student or season ticket holder at UTK since '85, and the man can't pronounce ath-lete, which has only two syllables, or ath-let-ics, which has only three. No; it's been ath-UH-lete and ath-UH-let-ics for years. It's like fingernails on a blackboard to me. These aren't exactly hard or difficult words to pronounce,

It's the same for him talking about the Nathan W. Dougherty family and the Society of large $$$ donors named after him. It's pronounced doe-er-tee, but he has wrongly pronounced it daw-tree for years. He and his family members have given many millions of dollars to the University over the years, and I'd insist that doofus pronounce the family's name correctly, or I'd stop giving. Really, it's not too much to ask. It's not running through the "T" like Thunder "purchased" w/his donations. It's just a little common courtesy and professionalism.

He may have been around for years, but somehow I don't forsee a Chesney ballad in his future when he steps down (if he ever does).

That's not Bobby Denton's line, that's Bill Williams, former WBIR anchor and Voice of the Pride. He describes the pregame and halftime show, not Bobby.

ATH-UH-LETE and SOPH-UH-MORE and PLEASE-PAY-UH-NO MORE are why the guy is a legend.

Like someone else already said, he's just about as recognizable as John Ward.

I love Denton personally

When UT cleans house, they need to dump the PA announcer and kesling. They can do a lot better---bring in some professionals, and not homers.

Why does he say th at? Is it just something like a "Signature Phrase" of his or is he saying not to tip? Or beware of people price gouging? Ha ha.... price gouging. Sounds like they are selling petrol in the stands.

I like Denton. Kesling is another story. He is ok. MUCH better than Dave Woloshin in Memphis....the Ultimate Homer.

I also like Denton. I especially like the awkward pause when the oposing team's lineup has a player with a hard to pronounce name.

What is up with him mispronoucing names at the games? I can halfway understand not being able to pronouce the visiting teams entire roster, but to call Crompton, "Crumpton" is beyond me. The worst one I remember is when I went to the UT-Miami game in Knoxville several years back. They kept announcing Willis Macgahee's name as Willis "Ma-guy-guy"

I haven't seen it anywhere else, but does anyone know why the Vol Radio Network broadcast was a few seconds behind the game Saturday? I've listened to headphones during the game for years and last Saturday was the first time I recall there being that large of a delay.

Anyone?
