Neyland needs to be louder this season.

I think the Georgia game last season is the last "big game" that we have won in Neyland in recent years. The stadium just doesn't seem as loud (to me) as it did in the 90s. Remember the Manning years? Loudest stadium in college football by far during those years.

I've been to "The Swamp" numerous times and I think it's louder than Neyland as of right now. Same goes for Tiger Stadium down in Baton Rouge.

We have yet another chance to make a statement against the Gators on our homefield and we are literally going to need every Vol in the stadium to make it happen.

Get your arse up and yell every freaking down the Gators are on offense.

That is all.

Cal was ok. Florida ended up being terrible in 2004 (great finish to that game). Arkansas was hardly a great team last year. They were above average.

Florida 2006 was pretty darn loud as well. We just couldn't pull it out

We have 100,000+ pretty much every game, but it doesn't sound like it. Too many of our fans are there just to watch. No cheering. Just sit and watch a football game.

My belief is that home games should be as advantageous as possible for the home team. Go to games at Florida or LSU, and that's true. At Neyland, not as much. It sounds like there's about 75,000-80,0000. Only when the game is on the line, final minute, rival type of game does our crowd get loud. It's a rare occasion that an opponent gets the full effect.

They were all big games.

Arkansas 07? I wouldn't call it a big game at all really.

I'd put it behind Georgia and SC last year and that's on a home schedule that wasn't strong imo.

Southern Miss
Georgia
Arkansas St
South Carolina
Louisiana Lafayette
Arkansas
Vanderbilt

And you put Arkansas as a big game with Cal 06 and Florida 04? I'm interested to know why.

Only reason I'd count the Arkansas game last year is because we did really well against McFadden/Jones after they ran all over South Carolina for a total of about 600 yards.

Quite frankly, I thought we would lose to Arkansas simply based on that. Our run defense was simply inconsistent last season. We got steamrolled by Florida and then we shutdown UGA. Two opposite ends of the spectrum. Not too mention that McFadden/Jones ran all over us in 2006.

Our compare our crowd to Georgia in Sanford Stadium (right now). Georgia fans aren't loud for every down of the game. We used to be in the 90s. Florida fans literally stand and yell the entire game. We have 15,000+ more seats than them and it sure as heck doesn't sound like it.

I just don't see why some fans don't stand and yell their arses off the whole game while the other team is on offense. Do it right if you are going to come to a game for three hours. The fans can make a difference. We have all seen it. A key false start here and there can be the difference in a team going on a long drive and punting the ball away.

Our fans simply changed in the early 2000s. Games in Neyland in the 90s were loud every single year and the Florida game in 98 is the loudest I have ever heard Neyland.

We have to get that back. We need that homefield advantage now more than ever since our talent isn't quite as high as it was then.

To go a step farther. I think we are loud at the wrong time. We as a fan base need to understand when to get on our feet and be loud. As a collective we need to be up when our opponents are in the huddle trying to call a play. Seems like everyone waits until the QB goes under center. If we are as loud as we can be when they are huddled up they will never be able to hear the play call. I have seen time outs called because of this very thing. If we did this every down of every game we as the the fans would force every other team to game plan around us. Every second we take away from them in practice having to install silent counts and not working on their plays is one second closer to victory for us.

This is only the 3,453rd thread on this...and Neyland still isn't getting louder.

And 2007 Arkansas was a big game. We had to win it to keep even a prayer of a SECCG alive (seems like the prayer worked) and DMac and Felix should have ran all over our defense but we shut them down. That was a big game.

The only game that I can recall Neyland being loud in the last couple of years is the Cal game in 06. We have way too many fans just watching the game instead of standing up and being a factor. I know I went to the South Carolina game and our fans seemed dead. I remember standing up and trying to make noise and people were just looking at me like I was crazy. I think some of our fanbase think that UT's games are a tennis match. I dont think Neyland anymore is even in the top three of loudest stadiums in the SEC.

Neyland is louder than all when good Volunteer football is being played. Its hard to cheer for mediocrity (by UT standards). Remind me how loud The Swamp, err Ben Hill Griffin Stadium was pre-Spurrier.

I'd just settle for going to a game where somebody doesn't try to start the wave . . . while we've got the ball.

Is that why teams practice for UT by pumping in Rocky Top and crowd noise? And every team installs a silent cadence before coming to Neyland if they didn't have one before.

And teams that visit Neyland on an irregular basis always talk about how loud it was.

There are some excpetional games that seem extra loud - because it is or maybe because the stress makes it feel that way. But all games are loud when they need to be. Everyone's not going to be yelling like crazy every snap for S. Miss, Arky st., or La Laf. Just not gonna happen.

NCAA CFB 08 still ranks TN in the top 5 for "Home-field Advantage" and we just came off an undefeated home season. maybe if our team was so terrible @ home 02-05 we could get back to top 2

Because IIRC (and I could be wrong), UF lost to UGA before our game started, thusly that game became quite big.

When I went to the 06 Bama game I was disappointed at how quite the crowd was!

I mean COME ON ITS ALABAMA!!
We play the crimson tide ONCE every two years at Neyland, and then the crowd decided to sit on their hands!

Who else thought the 06 Bama game was generally quite?
