So, serious talk for a moment, but what are your thoughts on switching over to a 3-4 defense?

I think Bituli would be a beast in that system. Warrior would be a terrific safety as well. D-line and OLB are where the issues are with switching to that system.

I think your line-up looks like this (signing class not included...current players only). To me, we are in a better personnel position to make the switch than we were in when Sunseri made the switch.

DE - Kongbo - Tuttle
NT - McKenzie
ILB - Bituli - Kirkland
OLB - Taylor - Smith
CB - Shamburger - Abernathy - Byrd
S - Warrior - Gaulden

It seems like more and more teams are doing it. Radio guys in Nashville were talking yesterday about the Titans and Dick LaBeau’s 3-4 D. They said there really isn’t a major difference between the 4-3 and 3-4 as far are attacking the offense. Personnel is obviously different but it allows you to have 1 avg, large human to just take up space (Khalil) while those around him attack. They said Saban likes it because he doesn’t have to rely on the rare mega talented D tackles. Thought it was interesting...

CJP referenced the high school team he coached; saying, he adapts to the strengths of the team and his players. I like that a lot. He who shall not be named did everything he could to make his players fit his scheme. Idiocy IMO and the really good coaches seem to always want to put their players in the scheme built around them with the best chance to succeed.

I get what you're saying, but his system was infallible.

Found it interesting yesterday the guys were also taking about Jennings having a chance to rejoin the team. Said he may be asked to play safety. (Could you imagine him and Warrior as our safetys?? Holy crap) I think CJP will be open to it after his comments about looking forward and that everyone gets a fresh start.

He'd have to earn it back with me. Walk On status until he's proven he can keep his emotions in check.

Kind of like what we did for Pig a few years ago.

Agree GV, I can understand his frustration given what was going on at the time, but NO WAY should he have gone off like that and posted it in public. Mega-Bad decision and he should suffer consequences, no getting off scot free.

Wasn’t Pigs “issue” drug related? I don’t remember.

I’m a big believer in personal responsibility. Owning your crap. Coming to the realization you stepped in it and making amends with the people your decision affected. In JJ’s scenario, it was his teams mates he let down. Rumor is he didn’t go to class, team meetings, disrespected the staff and then just showed up like an entitled brat expecting to play. Coaches actually showed a backbone and said no. Then came his insta-fit. All of that being said, if no crimes were committed and his teammates are willing to forgive him and if he’s even academically eligible, I think there’s an ample amount of stairs in Neyland that would warrant a visit everyday this off season from JJ should CJP give him a chance.

I hope so too. Having said that JJ was past what should have been his last chance. Having said that young people make mistakes under normal circumstances much less challenging ones.

Anyone got pull with the webmaster for Freak/VN? Would like to see the pic of the rock with Miles-Martin replaced.

I watched the press conference last night when I got home. Pruitt is a likeable guy who said all of the right things. After watching Jones at his hiring press conference and liking him at the time, I bought in and we all see how that turned out. Now, I'm not comparing Pruitt to Jones, I'm just saying that I won't jump on board so quickly this time around.

In all fairness, though, I am willing to put my break from the Vols on hold to see how things go between now and the final signing day. I want to see the complete staff he assembles and just how well he can salvage this recruiting class. Now, I don't expect him to be able to get us back into the top 5 or perform any other miracles. I would be very impressed if he could get us somewhere into the top 15 or 20 range.

While I am very disappointed in how things have gone, I have come to realize that completely turning in my Big Orange card didn’t turn out to be as easily done as I thought it would be. Anyway, here's to hoping Pruitt turns out to be everything we have hoped for and more.

GBO!

I have tons of relatives that live in Florence, which is where I sprang from as well. My paternal grandfather was a dynamite handler on dam construction in the area for a long time.

Lol, he always "brought it" on 4th of July...:rock:

My father worked for TVA. I started 1st grade in Florence.

Don’t like it, but understand why some coaches do. It’ll be a tough transition for a year or two.

NEGA-GRUDE ALERT! NEGA-GRUDE ALERT! NEGA-GRUDE ALERT! NEGA-GRUDE ALERT! NEGA-GRUDE ALERT! NEGA-GRUDE ALERT! NEGA-GRUDE ALERT!

And please tell me we are getting rid of that third down song. For all this is holy please ban it!

I'm in the minority, but I liked the "3rd Down For What" song.

However...

Play it only for big 3rd Down situations to get the crowd pumped up. Playing it every time made it get old quick.

I liked it too... you know... when we were actually capable of stopping a team on 3rd down.
