Neyland Expansion Plans revealed

Well I'm sure when this is all said and done I will be priced out of my seats in U. I'm sure those field level club seats will carry an enormous price tag now.

Did someone above mention that when you make a donation you are locked in at that donation for those seats but ticket prices can still change? Probably just wishful thinking on my part that I could still keep tickets in U with the new club pricing that I'm sure will hit.

"Apart from where Suites are planned, the entire
top of the Lower Bowl will have Ledge Seating
, replacing plywood boxes and screen walls"
(p. 18, Phase 2)

So there will be some extra seats gained on the east (and west?) side to make up for some of the seats lost by replacing the wood platform seats with a lesser number of ledge seats. I assume those areas would also be available for standing room only tickets as well.

"Alternate integrates design with terraced plaza & landscaping to proposed building" (p. 38, Phase 3, Gate 22/23)

At least a couple of places they reference 'alternate' as if something may change. Does anyone know of a proposed building near the Gate 22/23 complex on the north side of the stadium?

The dimensions on the jumbotrons are slightly smaller than the current jumbotron. I wonder if the viewing screens on the new jumbotrons will be further to the edge having less frame?

These renovations are clearly needed to keep up in the war for the higher priced donor. I do not believe that they will price out the average fan at all but these type of facilities are needed in order to get folks out of their houses with the advent of technology and 4k TV 's etc. They are also needed as other schools continue to to up the ante on new or renovated facilities. This also plays heavily in recruiting.

Just my opinion. As a larger donor who has the option of a skybox/terrace seats etc I personally will always choose to sit in the open in normal seats and enjoy a true game experience. A box/premium seating stuff is purely for donors who are looking for a "social" experience at the games or for corporations looking to entertain and get write offs.

I wish Neyland Stadium was on Cherokee campus or old closed brick factory near James White parkway bridge. It would make Knoxville so much better to not have seldom used multi lane highway taking up so much of some of the best riverside areas that could incorporate green space and limited but integrated commercial space.

Or keep Neyland Stadium where it is, but keep parking further away, change Neyland drive to 2 lanes, and use rail line and expanded vol navy ferry to get folks in to stadium.

A friend of mine had seats in VV for over 30 years. When the Terrace was built he had the option of paying or moving. Now he sits in S.

I assume the same "offer" will be made to you.

Capacity drops by 2k and some of you are acting like its 20k. Sheesh.

It's 5,000-6,000 with the last downgrade added in too. They are turning our stadium into a commercial NFL type stadium. How about renting out each of the checkerboards to put corporate logos on them? Maybe flashing signs for advertisement, too?

If you field a good team, they can fill the stadium, no problem, every game. They won't need to convince anyone by having better options and excluding more people. Tickets on the secondary market are already ridiculous, this will only make it that much worse.

I think they could add 20k seats and easily fill them.

No I specifically selected my seats there for the chair backs. They would have to lower the donation and ticket price in that area if they did that.

Exactly why we've had 4 tIX in YY9 since 1997. Sat with same people (many are VFL Lettermen) for last 20 years. Chair backs, undercover was worth the donation. Before that, season tix in South end zone "under the O" 6 rows from top before jumbotron. I will NOT go back to bleacher seats. Guess we'll see what our options are. They may very well lose some longtime season ticketholders.

The worst part of our gameday experience is dealing wth the South and East concourses. Narrow walkways combined with bathroom and concession lines results in complete standstill. It's terribly aggravating and really an inconceivable design, even moreso when you compare Neyland to other stadiums.

The Terrace has the best of both worlds: sideline, outdoor seating with actual seats and nice concessions and bathrooms.

XX3 here, and fully agree with you on that. :hi:

I want it to stay over 100,000, but I don't mind them sacrificing seats in order to improve the stadium. The number of fans isn't the biggest factor when it comes to having a loud stadium.

alabama has the best college stadium I've been to---better than some nfl stadiums. UT should totally redesign their stadium using the alabama model.

I sure hope so! Another pet peeve is that our current jumbotron isn't 16x9 aspect ratio. It makes for a lot of funky looking video.

I will say, when I go to games, I go to watch the games. I rarely visit concessions. I don't care about wide concourses, the menu, uniform colors, shoe colors, chairbacks, standing, sitting, etc. And that's because I have a penis.

I know this is glib but it's kind of the point. Catering to only half the population isn't smart business sense. Everyone is following Jerry now. Cowboys stadium is a great example of a facility courting the female customer. Maybe the wife or gf stands and watches the game, maybe she goes to one of the many bars and gets drinks with the other wives. Maybe she doesn't want to sit on s chunk of alumnimum for four hours, but a box seat gets her to go. Either way you both bought a ticket and are spending cash inside. You still have lots of seats for the "real fans", but the social fans money spends the same.

Yeah and I'd be curious as to the increase demand if the wives/girlfriends had a better experience and wanted to go to games.

Seriously - NO - just NO. Was there last year and section I was in was way worse than anywhere I have ever sat at Neyland. Bleacher seats just as tight - lost your place if you stood up and had to fight to get it back, concourse small and crowded. Bathrooms seemed like an after thought. Concessions were impossible. The worse stadium I have ever been in.

A lot of the jumbotrons out there aren't 16:9 any more and it does make the viewing "odd". The 16:9 boards are great because you can live stream correctly and replays look normal.

I like to watch the games. Could care less about how much brick is outside. How many TVs are in the club box where no one pays attention to the game. I hate all of the TV timeouts. Just Win!
