Neyland Atmosphere Saturday

Should be absolutely incredible. There is nothing like a hyped up gameday atmosphere in Knoxville.

One thing that has bugged me in recent years, however, is that the fans simply get stage fright at the first sign of adversity. I noticed this immensely during the Florida game last year. It was almost as if we as fans were negatively influencing the mojo of our own team. You could tell that the players noticed also. The stadium got quiet, the defense lost their swag they had all game, and ultimately we lost.

OU is a good team, and we will be playing a lot of good teams this year, so I feel like it's very important for us to be obnoxious and raucous throughout the game, regardless of score. That's the least we can do for our team, and if it makes the difference on even one play - well that could spark something even bigger.

Remember that positive attitude influences positive results, and I really think the fans can have impact on results at the college level. Let's bring Neyland back to the feared venue it used to be! No sitting on hands or getting down when things don't go in our favor. We can win this game, and should if we do our part.

'3rd down for what' should be more limited IMO. Using it judiciously would fire up both fans and therein the team.

Threads like this make me wish Neyland had a standing supporters section, for those of us who want to get behind our lads for a full 60 minutes, instead of a handful of third downs!

I would say anybody that is a UT fan and purchased a ticket is supporter of the program. Apprehension and tentativeness is natural by our fan base at this point considering the recent past; however, the team can show effort to bring them/us out of it.

I agree. I'd pay good money for an "adult student section" type section.

Agree.

But, It's a hard situation sometimes. If im sitting in front of a couple of snotty 50 somethings who won't stand- I stand.

But if it's some 75 year old guy and his lady who are decked out in Orange and I can tell they haven't missed a game in 40 years except for a possible hip replacement I struggle with blocking their view.

This x1000. I throughly believe our players feed off the crowd just as much as we feed on them. Four quarters of #neylandloud!

I absolutely hate sitting. Absolutely hate it! I am the guy that wants to stand up the whole game. I find my self in front of the old ppl who are respectful so I find it hard to stand all the time and I find my self doing a half stand half squat hoping they will tell me to go ahead and stand. Works for the most part lol

I agree with this. But to the 17-20 year old that asked me to sit on the first defensive play of 2014 I would once again laugh in your face

As an OU fan who will be at the game on Saturday, I hope the atmosphere is electric, regardless of the score. I'm ecstatic to see a 100k+ stadium filled to capacity -- which is unheard of, outside of the University of Texas, in the Big 12. And let's get real, you'd never catch an OU fan at Texas' stadium.

You are in for a treat. The Checkerboard Neyland will be an awesome sight firsthand. It's a night game, expectations are higher than they've been in a number of years...

The thing about these games is this....as a fan you don't just win or lose the game, You win or lose Knoxville as well.

If we beat Oklahoma, Knoxville will be rockin all night! The energy in the air simply can't be put into words. The Joy that is felt after witnessing a win over a top program and getting some revenge is incredible.

However, a loss and Knoxville turns into a Funeral! Everyone is gloom and just trying to get back home.

I feel good about this one....lets go Crazy Saturday night :rock:

Here in Orlando, we are building North America's first "safe standing" supporters section...

I'd love to see Neyland Stadium go that route... :dance2:

I was in the SS for '98 Florida and close by for the '04 FL... We need to do that again on Saturday! :rock:

Got family from out west visiting this week. I am thinking about driving them to Knoxville (and maybe Pigeon Forge) on Friday to let them see some of East Tennessee (they have never been there). Will there be much going on around Neyland on Friday (tailgating, Vol Navy , etc.) for them to see? Will it be difficult to drive around the stadium? Thanks.

You know I've read all of this thread and first of all this coming Saturday will be the bomb and Neyland will be rockin'.

Secondly, I don't care for the remarks made about people over a certain age of whether they stand or not... My husband and I are in our early 60's and our section of the Terrace always stands and yells.. Do some of you actually think your section is the only area that have some that don't stand? What I don't care for are our fans that sell their tickets to the snotty people that think their you know what doesn't stink and when we yell and have a good time we get looks! Oh hail NO, you're going to get the hang lose sign or my tongue stuck out at you.. I don't get why people pay all that money to come to games (some in tow with a bunch of little kids that could care less about the game) and have the audacity to criticize those of us that have been going for years and don't stand for one play or yell something offensive around their precious little children's ears? Oh yeah my husband has a brand new 8 week old hip, if he can't stand the whole game please don't text we're bad fans... LOL
