Meh. Smart left him a ton of talent. We will see if he can keep it going when he has a team of his own recruits.

Wade inherited a 26 win NCAA team and two top-100 signees from Shaka Smart.

He currently has 55 career wins as a HC and no NCAA or NIT experience.


Barnes took over a 15 win team that graduated it's top player to the NBA. The NCAA blocked his current team from having a true PG and there are no experienced true post players.

Barnes has over 600 wins and 22 NCAA tourney appearances including a F4.

Heard this last year about this season just insert different names.

1) Who is going to replace _________? Was Richardson last year, now Punter.
2) Gonna need freshman to come in and be ready to play. Admiral and Phillips seem capable enough.

Only Tennessee fans are dumb enough to "turn up the heat" on a hall of fame coach in his second year after he is the third coach in 3 years.

Fact is that guys improve and step up each year. It was McRae for a few years and we all wondered who would replace him. Then it was J-Rich and we all thought "Damn we're gonna be screwed without him next year" and now it's Punter. Next year it could be Hubbs or Schofield or Mostella or whoever. We will be okay because guys will continue to improve.

This is what I have been saying all long. Our AD went with the lazy choice.

Anyone who disagrees should be willing to voice why they think the hire last year was the best for our program.

Next years team will be much better. We don't have a point guard or a post player this year for Gods sake. Granted... The post situation next year may not be much better, but this is the least talented basketball teams in recent history.

I don't believe that it was Hart being lazy. I believe that he moved quickly because the opportunity to hire Barnes opened up and the window could have closed really fast. TN was turned down a year earlier by the La Tech coach with just 3 years of experience as a HC. 600 win D-1 coaches rarely become available.

I'll bite. Will Wade is a hell of an up-and-comer but was not ready for this stage yet. He would have struggled his 1st year here just like any coach, even K and Izzo wouldn't have this team in the tournament.

Turning down a HoF coach would be the stupidest decision ever. You'd be gambling to get anyone else. Some wanted Howland who is 8-11 with one win in the SEC and has lost to Southern and UMKC (who most have never even heard of before and is in 7th place in the WAC. Many wanted Brad Underwood who isn't doing as good as he was the past 2 years and is 14-5. Some wanted Bobby Hurley who is 11-9 and 1-6 in the PAC 12. These were our realistic candidates, none are doing much better, if even at all than CRB.

I think we will be better next year TBH and could make the NCAA tournament. CRB is a proven coach with a track record of making the NCAA tourney, CRB knows how to recruit, we will have a point guard and a back up pg which will give us better options at a four guard line up for 40 plus minutes, we will have a deeper roster, and hopefully have a partially developed big man by then. If we're playing like this team is early on next season then it's time to question the future of UT Vols basketball IMO.

Also Will Wade was left with a Shaka Smart roster and CRB as left with leftovers from Cuonzo Martin/Donnie Tyndall and also plays in a weaker conference. Of course he's going to have a better record.

Anyone know if we are recruiting a big man? Or know of any possible transfers out there for next year?

I believe if we can get a good productive big guy we may not be to bad, especially with a true pg. Hubbs will actually need to seem like he cares next year, as he will be looked on to do a lot for the team.

Will wade was way under qualified for the job up until this point. He need a NCAA tourney trip or 2 to be the odds on Favorite to be our next coach.

The old school plant a huge guy in the middle and feed him the rock doesn't seem to be the philosophy that CRB is embracing. He wants a roster full of athletic 6'7" interchangeable parts.

He could be a good option for Barnes to hand off the program to in a few years from now.

Right now, Will Wade has zero post season wins. 0-2 in the SoCon and 0-1 in one of the tournaments below the NIT. Hart needs to keep him on his list... but he's not ready for the SEC right yet.

Vols seniors per game average 41 points... Punter, Moore, Reese, Baulkman

Vols undergrads average points 36 per game..

Per rivals, all class of 2016 are 3 stars. best ranking of any player 139. tallest player 6'7".

Where are the big time players next year ? .. I do not see them now...

It's still a team sport. Building a program around big time players isn't the only approach to take.

Also, Turner is adding 0 PPG right now.

Looking at the roster a recruits coming in, we may be worse next year. Turner will help but who is going to step and score? And it looks like we will not have a solid big man again unless we get a transfer or Alexander gains some serious weight.

What do you guys think? I think if we struggle again next year the heat could be turned up on Barnes and he is at the stage in his career where he may just say screw this I'm done. Then we are starting all over again. Cuozno leaving was the worst thing for this program since the whole Pearl blowout. We would have a solid program if he was still here.

I am not a big recruiting Basketball fan but i do know one thing you won't win in this league with 3 star recruits like we got now 5, just like football you got to have at least 4 star recruits to compete every night.

What concerns me most about next year is that we'll have no go to guy. Hubbs will be our most experienced player. That should be unsettling to anyone. This year's team is a veteran team and can't finish games. Next year will probably be worse. Possibly much worse. Barnes has to get some more players. Year 3 will be his make or break year IMO.
