Okay, I think it's safe to say there'll be no more QB's coming in.

This leaves us with (and tell me if I'm wrong):
Matt Simms
Tyler Bray
Nick Stevens
Nick Lamaison (sp?)

Who do you guys think will start next year?
I'm thinking Stevens is the incumbent. He was on the team last year, so he's worked win Chaney. What scares me is that he didn't throw so well when he was on the field.

Bray (IMO) doesn't have that great of a chance to start (unless it's late in the season/injuries/blowouts).

I don't know what all Lamaison (again, sp?) can do; I've never watched him, and same with Matt Simms.

What do you think?

Nance might be here also. Simms and Stevens battle for the job.

Yeah, if Nance comes in, he will almost certainly redshirt. I think Stephens starts, unless Simms beats him. NL I just dont ever see playing. Bray may redshirt as well next year, though i doubt it. Its gonna be interesting. . Bray could redshirt, or he could start for all i know.

Tyler may be.

I think it's pretty much Nick Stephen's to lose at this point. The coaches were praising him in the bowl practices. It depends how much Matt Simms picks up on the system and if he has a Sally Arm like his brother or if he can throw the long outs. Kiffin used the Seam Route with Crompton because of our advantage at TE and plus it was by far Crompton's best throw, but Chaney ran more of a high-powered deal at Purdue. I'm pretty interested in what our O will look like next year. As far as Nick L., the reports from practice is that he was having a very hard time adjusting to the speed of the SEC D's vs Jr. College. He doesn't have an overly strong arm, kinda reminds me of a Danny Wuerffel type of player. I watched some film from his Jr. College and he threw a decent fade route, but mostly dinks and dunks. But hey, he set records with those so who knows!!!

as good as crompton turned out to be last year, i've just never been a fan of starting a quarterback who's only going to be there for 1 year. sadly we may have no other choice as far as experience goes, and also because of the huge question mark that is our O-line. But i've been hoping and praying that maybe, just maybe, tyler bray shows the coaches enough and the offensive line looks good enough in spring and fall practices to go ahead and start bray, who's already our future. but hey, whoever starts will start, and hopefully can help this team win. but all signs are certainly pointing to stephens at this point, who i really have nothing against, just wish he wasn't a senior so we wouldn't have to have this same discussion of "new qb" again next year.

I would much rather get one of the young guys to start, we do not need 3 starting QBs in 3 years, Bray, Simms, possibly Nance....It will be an interesting spring and fall.

we should go ahead and start bray or nance. we are going to have a horrendous year next yr anyway so why dont we get these guys some experience?

From what I've heard about Simms, the job will definitely not be his.
Stevens may start with the job, but it could go to Bray if things arye.

Nick Stephens has never impressed me. I say give it to Bray and live and die by the freshman. He will only get better and better. He should already be well on his way toward putting on some weight in the training room, and learning the system as an EE.

You've got good RB's behind him in Poole, Teague and Brown. That should take some pressure off him to produce right from the start.

Interesting that some of you are talking like it's a done deal that Nance (and presumably then Da'Rick Rodgers) are going to be here next year. We don't know anything yet from those two unless I missed a thread somewhere.

I think its a battle between Stephens and Simms.

Stephens will win out because of last years experience, and the fact that he's a senior.

I want an upperclassman starting, especially in a transition year. The offense will need some leadership. And Bray wil start the next two seasons.

Did Nick get to use a redshirt year last year?? I don't recall seeing him ever make the field last year and I'm also not sure if he redshirted anywhere else. If he had a redshirt last year, then he would be a soph, Simms a Jr, Stephens a Sr and Bray a frosh. Better than the potential mess we had last year after BJ transfered. BTW...what a shame he left. The job would have been his.

That's a hard call to make. We'll have to let the coaches sort that one out. I agree that an upper classmen should start on one hand but on the flipside, I really IMHO don't think we will have a great year and giving that experience to bray would be really beneficial for 2011 and on. Like I said though, I'm torn on that decision. The coaches will do the right thing. It's going to be ugly this year with a new EVERYTHING in place. Get ready fellow Vol Fans. That's just my opinion and nothing else. We are starting over AGAIN!!:banghead2: Gota plan for 2011 on IMO.

I don't think we should start the season with Bray just to give him experience. If he's not ready, then the Oregon and Florida games could destroy his confidence.

I don't like the idea of 3 QBs in 3 years and possibly 4 QBs in 4 years, but we need to go with whoever is the best QB right now. The coaches will decide that one.

Bottom line is our coaching staff will do the right thing for the best interest of the team. I just hope one of them lights it up during spring man.

IMO, it will be Stephens job to lose in the spring, and I don't think the others will be able to do enough to take the job from him. This is Stephens last shot at being the starter and I think he will be.

I'd say the new UT coaches have a tough decision.

You can go with the freshman in 2010, and take your lumps now, and come out in 2011 with an tested sophomore starter.

Of course there are pitfalls with that strategy. You could destroy the QB's confidence, or just plain get him killed.

Or the coaches could go with the senior if they think it will bring them immediate success.

It'll be interesting to see how that plays out. Personally I think they stick with the senior.
