As the bad apples begin to be purged and the talent is upgraded and the current players get developed........this thing will start to take off.. JG is the only concern. Maybe 2 teams in the SEC would trade for him. Kentucky and Arkansas. He is not the answer. You can have everything and a below average QB and it doesn't matter. That is why in a few years this will be rolling. But next year???? You just played the hardest schedule in America. We had our defensive line playing 70-75 snaps. The great ones play 45. Need to recruit and get a rotation. It is coming.

Oh, I get it. UT is the only team that can improve from one year to the next.

Have you not been paying attention the last 12 years?

Props for not calling UF a win though. At least you're more reasonable than others.

The schedule is super weak next year. If Pruitt is decent at his job we are in a bowl game next season. We lose hardly anyone, Missouri, Vandy and Kentucky have major losses. Then non-conf schedule is high school level. 7-5 should be the floor next year.

That team we saw at the end of the season would lose by 2 or more possessions to UAB and BYU...

Not sure how the Vols will be favored to win any of the Conference games, considering:
--Still don't have a play maker at QB. Has a good arm but still struggles to read defenses and can't make plays with his feet.
--still don't have a deep threat at WR. Callaway struggles to get off the line and like Jennings is slow, Murphy can't catch the ball. Need a receiver who can catch the ball and can get behind the defense and not rely on 50-50 balls thrown up in the air and hope your WR comes down with it. Would also help keep the safeties out of the run game.
--If Trey Smith can't come back (doubtful), Vols don't have a single offensive lineman who should be in the SEC. Their inept showing is only surpassed by UT's clueless LB corps
--Still won't have a dominant defensive lineman who can serve as a run stopper
--Still don't have a speed rusher to get any sort of rush on QB
--Still don't have a single LB who could play for any other team in the conference. Worst position group on a very bad team.
--Still won't have a safety who is even serviceable in pass coverage or provide run support. Yes, Warrior is athletic but he doesn't even know where to line up most of the time.
--May have 2 or 3 corners who are decent in pass coverage but need to improve their tackling. This could be a strength but if you can't get a pass rush even this is negated.
--Still have a very soft roster who has proven themselves to be slower, weaker, and softer than any team in Tennessee history. Some of those teams will be down but MIss St has some big men on both sides of the ball and Vandy and Missouri both physically whipped Tennessee on both sides of the ball this year.
--Still has an inexperienced staff who was unimaginative in play calling and apparently completely lost on the defensive side of the ball. The HC wants to run the same offense they have at Alabama and the one the Vols ran in the 90s. This only works when you have bigger faster stronger players than the other team. Vols are a long way from that.

It still looks like a struggle to get to 6-6 and a bowl in some exotic location like Memphis or Birmingham.

Again, only 4 sure wins on the schedule. Don't kid yourself.

Georgia State (win)
BYU (win)
Chattanooga (win)
Florida (loss) - they'll be better next year with the development of Emory Jones.
Georgia (loss)
Mississippi State (swing) - They lose Fitzgerald but it'll be year 2 under the new staff and Bob Shoop's defense is solid. Fitzgerald's replacement doesn't suck.
Alabama (loss)
South Carolina (loss) - They're consistently competitive against good teams. Bentley returns and Muschamp has owned us.
UAB (win) - Call it a win, but don't sleep on the Blazers.
Kentucky (swing) - We caught them at the perfect time this year. I had a thread predicting the win, but it wasn't because I thought we had the better team. It'll be interesting to see how they rebuild after losing a bunch of seniors.
Missouri (loss) - they dominated us in the trenches and have blown us out in back-to-back seasons.
Vanderbilt (swing) - they also dominated us in the trenches, but I have less confidence in their ability to replace a quarterback. Also think Ke'Shawn Vaughn enters the NFL Draft averaging 7 ypc this year.

4 wins
5 losses
3 swing games

^this^... I see 7 or 8 losses.. No way Pruitt can fix this in the off season. We have looked like a high school team at time's. The only thing that has been consistent is us being inconsistent. I just see too many areas in need of improvement.

While there should be some improvement in the returning player (I hope),other teams can improve also. I hope you are right but it looks like a 6-6 season to me right now at best.

Shades of the Diary of Anne Frank. This is really admirable, the indomitable spirit of the Volunteer faithful. We still expect good after a decade plus of being beat senseless.
