It will be interesting to see how fans react to the "transition" with a new coach at the helm. As we all know results can vary in this situation...........One extreme being the "instant" success of coaches like Meyer, Stoops, Saban, etc., that turned around programs in no time............Or the other end of the spectrum Rodrigues, Callahan, etc.,that were (are) disasters.

I'm just wondering if those same fans who, like childish bullies on the playground, dogged Phil to no end and drove us to where we are.........will they be the first to start crying if next year is not a successful year?

It would be a very unwise to expect anything next year. maybe even the year after.
It will take time.

I'd be surprised if we won more than 7 games next year. Saying that, I'll take it if we can get a coach that can get us back to prominence over the rest of his tenure.

I agree with Defendthishouse, it is going to take some time not unless they get a coach in here that we know it doesn't take time to turn things around but most likely you are gonna hear fans cry next year, like oh we suck again and all that. Real simple equation is if new coach is instant success, fans will erupt, new coach maybe goes .500 on the year, yeah some fans crying.

It all depends on how the players are gonna react to a new coach. If today is any indication of how the players will react, it will take at least 5 years to be a threat to UF,UGA,even USCe. We will need to be patient.

Look at next year's schedule, Western Kentucky, UCLA surely we will win next year, Ohio U., Memphis, Auburn, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt and Kentucky. That leaves Georgia, Florida, and Alabama to worry about. I am optimistic that we can win 9 games next year.

There it is right there. We have not even hired the coach yet and we are winning 9 games.

I just hope people arent looking for the Urban Myer type turn around. Progression is what we need. I say atleast 3-4, maybe more, years before we're the Vols of the 90's. It will take time.

Auburn is likely looking at a new coach too so there is reason for confidence there, USC comes to Neyland and that is a plus... Ole Miss seems to be the biggest question mark there, no telling what they might look like next year and could be a dark horse to win the West, though with that schedule 7-9 wins is certainly a possibility regardless of who is coaching so maybe our transition could be more pleasant that what the folks in Ann Arbor are going through...

the fans are not responsible for the product on the field. That's what a coach gets judged by

You don't think the coached gets "judged" if fans are in the stands wearing bags over their heads?

if he's winning there are no bags. If UT has 1 loss right now you think anyone is choosing paper at their local Kroger?

The fans were never the issue and did noting to bring this about

And just where is that? Can we do any worse than this year? Are you so confident that Fulmer would turn things around next year? What's our home record against top 10 teams, 1-8 or something like that? Is that satisfactory in your view?

My point is that if the new coach isn't doing so well mid-season next year, will the fans be patient......or will they go ahead and breakout the bags.

Pathetic seeing that at the Bama game on national television. You can pretend that the "fans" play no role in the success of a program, but I'd say you're

Satisfactory........no. Bad enough to wear a sack on my head and boo the whole game.....absolutely not.

while you were concentrating on the pathetic fans did you happen to see the pathetic plan the football team put out there? You're making excuses and they're terrible ones
