Ok, I'm down and need something else to talk about. I'm going to stay away from the coaching angle due to plenty of threads already listed. I will stay positive about our players today (you didnt hear me last night)...

So lets look at the East. I dont do research so this is more you giving info + opinion.

Georgia: Talented and young. Major problem for us for a while.
Florida: Seemed to take to their new staff better than ours. This frustrating since they have some of our former coaches. Starting QB is back but dont know about their trenches. Didnt seem to have many playmakers but were still effective. Due to Mullen a problem for many years.
SC: Talented but may have some players leaving (or Im hoping). Good Defense but Muscamp (sp) seems to underachieve each year. Hoping that we can finally beat him next year.
Mizz: New QB.... hopefully a win next year. Dont know much about them. Please fill me in.
Kentucky: Hopefully Snell is gone. I think they lose a lot. Another win.
Vandy: QB is gone. Seems to have some playmakers on offense though. Hopefully we never lose to them again.

Wow I thought I would feel better, lol. Year two with new recruits...S&C gains...

TENN: D line completely replaced, scary regardless of how bad they were.
Hopefully improved play out of Oline, LBs, DB's (young but looked really good at times), running backs, tight ends. I think JG is good, not great but good.

What say you and ignore my spelling...

I’m gonna go ahead and say we lose to UGA, FLA, USC, Missouri and Vandy. No point in hoping for anything different.
Yeah. We own UK at home too. Good thing they come back to Knoxville in 2019.

I can’t take anyone seriously that believes JG is good.

I think the unfortunate and hard to swallow truth for the fanbase is that next year will be another painful rebuilding year. I think many were hoping we could pull a Georgia and compete for the East in year 2, but I don't see that happening. We not only need to bring in new players, but develop them as well. Going to take at least another recruiting cycle to fill in the talent deficiencies on this team and completely change the culture IMO.

Luckily Vandy and Mizzou should theoretically take a step back due to losing their Qbs, but with the way they both dismantled us, it is hard to say we should still win. D-Line is a huge concern to me and could completely set this team back all next season. Our offense could take a step forward, but still have a really hard time overcoming a completely dominated D-Line..

I completely agree with you. Never once considered a Georgia yr 2 turn around but hoping to find 7 wins somewhere...

Lol, I understand. Thank you for your opinion. And you thought the other guy was good... lol.
You can believe JG is garbage without anointing the backup as better. But do what you need to do to validate your opinion.

We couldn't beat either team if they played without their QB's. Need to change to a conference that reflects the judgement of the UT administration.

Not looking to validate anything. I think he is good enough to win with. He can be a game manager for all I care. He has his issues especially reading defenses but I think that can be coached out of him. He is however not even close to the reason we were so bad this year. Anyway... back to the point of the thread. We can agree to disagree and move on.

Georgia had play makers on both sides of the ball when Smart took over. Tennessee has had subpar recruiting for several years. For anyone to “hope to pull a Georgia in year 2” with the kids on Tennessee’s roster when Pruitt took over is living a fantasy.

Schedule is set up to have some success, but I just don’t know that we will be in position to capitalize...again.

If we moved to division 2 I honestly believe we could make the playoffs, and have an outside chance at winning it all.

Florida will win in the East. GA will come in second. (FL will play AL in championship game... again) The SEC is so predictable it's boring.

Probably time to stop taking Missouri lightly.

They have done a lot more with a lot less than TN since they joined the SEC.

We cannot take any game for granted, there are no conference games we can mark "W" pre-season and there won't be for many, many years, if ever. Ole Miss has a lot of conference championships, and then they just stopped winning them in the mid 60's. That is the track we are on, did those of us who are Vol fans and remember the 80's consider Ole Miss a traditional power in say 1988? No, we considered them a has been program, that's what we are widely considered now. We are in a low spot and it is going to be a battle to get out of it, that will not be straight up, the first step is becoming competitive in every game, outside of maybe the true elite teams. We did not take that step this year, next year maybe we can, W-L's aside.

Florida has an unusually high number of Juniors who have to make an NFL decision; Jachai Polite, Jabari Zuniga, Perine, Scarlett, LT Juwann Taylor, David Reese, Vosean Jospeh, Chauncey Gardner-Phillips, Van Jefferson. That’s 9 guys. Polite and Taylor are gone I would think as both are projected to go in the 1st round. If they can keep the rest, they will be very good again.
