I just love all the "Wait 'till next year." stuff. Really excites me right before signing day this year. For a minute I thought I had logged onto the Commodore War Room.

It's a question about next year not a "wait til next year" thread. Maybe if he had posted another "We're screwed!!" thread you would have approved? Give it a rest

On topic, I do think we have some new guys who will help us out. It may be a little too late to have a big impact this recruiting season but we will get a chance to see what they can do. It doesn't seem like any of the new guys will do anything but help us on the trail.

my point is why are we even talking about next year when this year's not over? I'll tell you why, because this year is in the tank.

This years recruiting class is not going to be like last years. Everybody knows that. Its a fact. We get it. The point is why you choose to continue to shout it over and over again. We have enough talent on campus that this one class is not going to ruin our program. If next years class does not turn out good then we might have something to talk about.

2 subpar years out of 4. remember that in 06 we barely cracked the top 25. so it's not just one class and you can never have enough top tier talent. serious competetion makes a team excel imo. you also have to account for guys getting booted ala' Coker, Morely, etc and guys just being busts.

I just dont understand why you guys continue to try to rationalize this crap class.

I'm sure that quite a few people wish that their boss would let them slide this year because of last year's performance.

Not everyone has succumbed to Phillip's charms rex. Once signing day comes and goes we will be able to better separate the blind idiot homers from the people who can discern what is working from what is not working.

its a freaking needs class in a year with down instate talent? What can't you get through your thick head about that?
The in-state talent, while not as good as last year overall, is not that down. The truth is that Saban walked accross Tennessee and took who he wanted. UTK has missed out on several highly rated in-state kids who could fill needs.

KL, don't feel bad about it. From now until signing day, just about every thread on the subject of recruiting is going to turn sour, unless of course the Vols somehow obtain commits from a passel of highly rated prospects including a couple of 4-5* DTs. Part of this is what is it, concern about the seemingly increasing talent gap between UTK and UGA, UF, & Bama. The other part has to do with the whole debate over the head coach. For years, Fulmer's defenders have insisted that he is vital for recruiting but with 2 very sub-par recruiting seasons in the past 3 years that argument is not holding as much water as it once did. All of this gets people riled up, but it incites spirited debate and that is what makes the board interesting.

It's ok and it was a good thread ruined by those who can't seem to read a thread title. It's sad really

Basically I think when dealing with high school kids except for the ones that love their hometown school it's all about the big name school and right now UT is middle of the road in the eyes of the rest of the country. We just have to face facts until we play in 2 BCS bowls in 3 or 4 years we aren't going to get our national reputation back.

I would like a top 10 recruiter approach like we did in the previous class.

I want to go through top 100 or 250 (not on rivals or scout, but as a team they better have the ability to evaluate that talent ) and pick names from all over the US (heck canada if needed) and get the scholarships out early.

If you go through the top 50 right now, you see scholarship offers from LSU, FL, USC, UGA, Nebraska, and even OLE MISS? why haven't we had next years evaluated and the offers already out

The real problem is we are to late into the season when we start....USC has 4 already in the Top 100 and there is only 8-10 commits...sad

all of those are from CA. Makes it easier when you can drive over to their house

PJ do me a favor and have some geographic understanding that CA is the third largest state in the union.

Fresno- USC is 3.5 hours or so ....not a quick drive over and if that is right around the corner then we have nashville, lexington, atlanta, and western NC already locked up

the other point is by the way USC is next door to UCLA so it is more about the early scholly offer then location

Excuse me then, 4 of the 5 are within a quick drive of campus. It would be like UT locking down Lenoir City.

We are definitely dealing with gullible high school kids. How else do you explain saban raking in a top five class. He has probably told them he isn't going anywhere and he'll be the head coach at alabama. Hum wonder where i heard that before.:birgits_giggle:
