Next Year...Heard It here First!

Not going to happen. Sorry, I love the VOLS as much as anyone but that is expecting way too much from what will be a very young team. To be honest with you, I would be very happy with 9-4 after the bowl. Even that may be expecting too much.

Beginning of this year, Id called you crazy. Now? After seeing the progress we made in the first season?

Id say your dead on, brother.

Hate to agree with this but I do.
We have a VERY tough schedule next season and will have a young team on the field. We face 2 potential top 10 teams in the first month and more then likely will have a freshman QB starting. I love the optimism and hope it happens but don't get your hopes up. If UCLA can come in and beat us then Oregon can.

2010 Schedule

09/04/10 Tennessee Martin - W
09/11/10 Oregon - ?
09/18/10 Florida - ?
09/25/10 UAB - W
10/02/10 at LSU - ?
10/09/10 at Georgia - W
10/23/10 Alabama - ?
10/30/10 at South Carolina - ?
11/06/10 at Memphis - W
11/13/10 Mississippi - W
11/20/10 at Vanderbilt - W
11/27/10 Kentucky - W

I see 7 or so that we should win, the rest depend on a lot of different factors. How good will FL be w/ all they're losing? The spread gave us some fits this year, and Oregon runs it well. Bama will be good again, as will LSU, and USCjr should improve. I do like that most of our big games are at home, but we will be rebuilding some key areas next year that could see some growing pains. As people have said before the OL and QB will be areas of concern once again. Our depth should be greater at most positions but that depth is very young and mostly inexperienced. I'd love to see us win out, go into the offseason energized, and really begin to build a solid foundation for the coming years. So what the heck, here's to a BCS bowl in 2010

Oregon is a scary team, they seem to always compete well in the pac-10. The UCLA loss still haunts me in my sleep, much like Mt. Cody's bodacious boobs:frown: blocking our field goals. And Auburn should have been handled, but they took a victory in our house. The only team that actually beat us was Florida. 2 bad passes, a blocked field goal, a blocked extra point, and a questionable officiating crew is the reason we are 4-4 instead of 6-1. HOWEVER, I doubt very seriously that ANY of the teams we played would like another shot at the Vols, that includes Florida. And Oregan will not put a lot of points up against the defense next year.:shaking2:

I think we finish 9-4, with a bowl game win. Our freshmen getting valuable experience, we get solid JUCO recruits to compliment our experienced upperclassmen, and if we sign some gamebreakers like Dyer and Meline, then we will have a frightening product on the field next year. :crossfingers:

I think we have gamebreakers in the current frosh class, but like most freshmen they just need some time to develop into SEC gamebreakers(Nuke, Oku, BB). I don't worry so much about our skill positions next year as I do our key positions, OL and QB. Show me that those 2 positions are solid and I think we can hang w/ anyone next year.

10/30/10 at South Carolina: Win (will be close)
11/06/10 at Memphis: Win
11/13/10 Mississippi: Win
11/20/10 at Vanderbilt: Win
11/27/10 Kentucky: Win

I think you go 7-5. Oregon, Alabama, Florida, and LSU just have too much talent. Georgia will be better and they will be playing at home. The South Carolina is really 50-50. I could see anywhere from an 8-4 to 6-6 record.

It is great to have belief but you have to face reality also. In 2011 Vols will rise to the top.

I think you are looking better in 2011, but 2010 looks like an 8-4 season. QB is the biggest problem along with Oregon, Florida, LSU, and Bama on the schedule.

I believe the only teams that will give us trouble with next year is Oregon and possibly Alabama. Florida and LSU will get the arses spanked, mark it down.

I was serious. You will be the underdog in all of those games. The only game that I could see you winning is Georgia but they get you guys at home and they will be much improved. Florida, Alabama, Oregon, and LSU just have too much talent. Your offense will really struggle and it will be interesting to see what kind of defense you have when Berry is gone.

Really? You honestly think so? Our defense is going to be nasty and I just don't see anything special on your offense. I see us winning a game similar to this year...24-10 or something like that. I just don't see an offense with Nick Stephens at QB and a brand new offensive line giving our efense much trouble.

I've already got September 18, 2010 circled with a big orange marker on my calendar! That is the day UT takes florida to the woodshed and takes control of the SEC east!

UT 34 Fla 20 -- mark it down!

I was wondering where you were VolnMia? You and a few posters in this thread let me have it for saying that the 2010 Vols would be similar to the 2008 Bama team. So I'm glad to see you haven't switched sides. But for the record I was the first to predict this happening next year. Just like I suggested Poole go ahead and transfer before the season due to me seeing how our depth chart was going to shake out. But I get bashed for saying certain things two-three months in advance. Carry on with this remix of my thread.

Hate to "rain" in your Kool-Aid, but we face two tough teams (Fla & Oregon) back-to-back early in the season, with a QB new to the system and/or unproven, and an entirely new offensive line except for Douglas. Sound familiar? If we lose both of those games before our offense can gel, it will be almost impossible to run the table, incl. the SEC championship game.

NC in 2011 in achievable, but we will have to play both Fla & Bama on the road. I like your positive thoughts, though. :hi:

1. Win the SEC East (definite possibility)
2. Go to a BCS bowl (I would bet against this)
3. Finish with two losses (no way. we are talking about 2010, right?)
-----------
4. Go on to win a NC in 2011 (2011 should be a great year for us. I believe we will be in the conversation.

I am an optimist and am bullish on this program right now. But next year's schedule is obscene. Our second and third games are against Oregon and Florida. I think we'll be better next year than we are this year, but I'm not necessarily sure our record will drastically improve.

I think UT will lose to Oregon... To many question marks. Without Tebow, UT may be able to beat Florida. If they don't drop any bad games, UT could make the SEC Championship with 2 conference losses (Bama and someone else) if Florida loses.

Your right, Slive will probably let Tebow stay another year, along with your entire defense. LSU will be a problem, I can see a loss there because of being in Baton Rouge. Georgia, are you serious???? Alabama has the most talented team this year, but they lose almost the entire starting defense, they do keep some playmakers on offense. But they have to come to Knoxville and face a revenge driven Vols team, possible loss. And as far as Oregon goes, well I can see a possible loss, but again they lose a lot this year too, and Brandon Spikes Jr. will not be allowed to play next year.

Sounding like bammers. Best to say we may, we could ect. Like CLK says, don't know how many we will win, but we will improve. Bunch of young players next year. It takes time to build a championship team. Just knowing we will be competitive and not out-coached in every game is enough for me. No matter how talented, you must have some good Seniors to win a national title.

Depends on our O-Line. Defensive-wise, we will be perfectly fine. Our playmakers are good. QB is an issue, especiallys if we start Bray. So I think a 10-3 season (with a bowl win) would be great. But while I don't see it happening, I could see us pulling a 08 Bama year. But it's all about the O-Line.
