I hate to say this...but I believe it to be true. Next Saturday, at 7pm under the lights at Neyland Stadium, the fate of our season is on the line. A win against Butch Jones 2.0 and the Gators, no matter how sucky they are this year could propel us to maybe be competitive and steal a game in one of the next 3. A loss, and we are presumed to be behind the gators in the east with even Kentucky and Candy looking to be challenging games for us. Lets hope Jeremy can coach em up and earn his money this week.

This will be the BIGGEST confidence game in years. We lose next Saturday and we will go 0-8 again in the SEC.

What a take. I think if we lose we will never win another game ever. Make UTEPs Streak look a minor speed bump.

Let's get it started.

@BeardedVol gonna brew the kool-aid.

The sky is not falling! Pruitt first year and inherited a bad team next year will be much better
I always saw this as 5 - 7 but next season as 9 or 10 wins. Teams better get their licks in now because starting next season, we will be rolling

I guess I don't really see it that way. Unless the Vols just beat the doors off of Florida, which I doubt will happen (but would be great to see) TN will very likely be underdogs in every conference game they play this season. So, beating the Gators would be satisfying and great, and puts one more in the Win column. But realistically, this team, even with a Florida win, will probably be 4 and 5 heading into the last three games against KY, MO and Vandy. I think we might sneak up on one of those three for a 5 and 7 season record. Very best case, 6 and 6. Not a whole lot to get excited about IMHO. We are years away from competing against even mid level SEC teams. Patience.

If we were able to steal a game from one of those three, then wouldn’t that be competing against a “mid-level” team? Sounds like it is important, because without it making a bowl gets much tougher. Maybe making a bowl isn’t exciting for some, but it’s extremely important for a young team that is rebuilding.

No, no it isn't. You mean the way everyone projected the season to go before it started?

I really hope the coaching staff aren't thinking that way.

It's the biggest game of the year IMO. But saying UK & VU may be "challenging" games for us is in understatement. I wouldn't expect a win right now against either one. IMHO, UF may be our best chance this season to win an SEC game. I sure hope our team shows me differently this week. But, so far from what I see, this team could easily go 0-8 in the SEC again.

If you can't get excited about a win against Florida - you aren't a Tennessee fan. This year we are going to get beat a lot but a win against Florida will mean a lot and start to cement Pruitt as a real football coach.

Exactly. Beating UF is something Pruitt will have to do 2/3 times of he’s going to work out here

Dude....we are stealing no game from Bama, Auburn, or UGA.

Get that out of your head. Not happening.

Beating Fla would mean a lot for moral across the team and fan base... but will not do much to ease the pain of the azz whippings coming in the next 3 games. Better off stealing hub caps, cause they will not steal one of those games.

Well, really every win is important. Certainly beating UF would be a confidence builder. As to "mid level" I am thinking more of teams like South Carolina. I know some fans on here call that a winnable game. I would love to see that happen but think it is unlikely. But that's why they play the games.

Isnt Mullen the winningest coach in Miss St history? Didnt he win alot of SEC WEST games? Why are we referring to him as Butch Jones 2.0?

Wouldn’t call him Butch’s clone, but here’s what they have in common: wasn’t either schools first or second choice, goofy AF, rely on mobile athletic qbs to cover up deficiencies, sub .500 SEC record, champions of nothing, and loser to Kentucky way more often than what is acceptable.

Florida is going to look at our tape, then look at the team on Saturday and be devastated. The win they thought would be a home run is going to be taken from them. Hearts broken, minds blown, and a rivalry game that will light a fire for the rest of the season. We are going to win because we are going to become the Tennessee football team that we grew up watching and loving! GBO

Dan mullen took a joke program very difficult to recruite to and built a solid program in a much harder division than the east. We won coy in 2014. He has proven effective in the sec, butch jones did not. All the other stuff is meaningless.
