I can't be upset either way, but I can't root against UT even against my own school. One thing that might be an advantage is that ETSU has an even weaker post game than we do. They shouldn't get many second looks and we may get a few ourselves.

We had a pretty decent advantage In the post the previous game too.

I'd like to see us control the paint more. We can shoot well enough for teams to respect us deep so get a huge W before sec play

Could be interesting if we allow ETSU to shoot 40% or more of their shots from 3, this is a game maybe you make that slight tweak to extend since they're not very much of a threat inside.

Riley is the catalyst for the team. I've watched etsu a bit this year. Rembrandt is the best all around player, but Riley gives them a jump start.when he's on. They will pressure us defensively and try to force turnovers.

It would not surprise me if they attempted 35-40 threes.

What you have with the Bucs is the best overall 3 point shooting team in the country considering 3 players are nationally ranked in 3 point field goals made and %. Two of them are seniors and one a junior. Rashawn Rembert is ranked 6th in 3 point field goals made (3.89 per game) and 68th in 3 point % (38.9%) . Lester Wilson is ranked 12th in field goals made (3.44 per game) and 50th in 3 point % (41.3%). Jalen Riley is ranked 25th in 3 point field goals made (3.11 per game) and 20th in 3 point % (46.7%). The Bucs are ranked 2nd nationally in 3 point field goals made (11.9 per game). Gonna take a major tweak against these guys. They are awesome beyond the arc. Guess we'll find out if Coach T will have something up his sleeve!

Bad luck!
First, the team lost big man Ron Giplaye (6'6", 250 lb) to a season ending injury (ACL). Now, they'll be without another post, Alex Bates (6'9", 225 lb), because of academic reasons. We're not sure how long Bates will be off the court, but for the guys who are still on it, the pressure is on. "Two weeks ago when we had won five in a row, the two guys who had played all the minutes inside were Ron Giplaye and Alex Bates," said Head Coach Murry Bartow. "Now we don't have either of them. It's certainly affected our depth and really affected us inside. We just don't have the strength and the height we had two weeks ago."

Riley is a small combo guard (6'0 about 160) who scores 20 points a game coming off the bench. Not only does he hit from outside he gets to the line often and hits , 60-73, .822 in 9 games to he gets so the line about 8 times a game. He has only started 1 game but I wouldn't be surprised if he starts against Tennessee.

Rembert scores 17 points a game, Can be streaky but mostly solid and when he does get hot, watch out.

Wilson 14 points a game. Can also get hot, But since losing the two post players he has been called upon to play/guard the 5 some (at 6'4 215) and that handicap on the defensive end has sometimes hurt him on the offensive side.

Banks is a slender 6'7 215 So who has stepped into the post and played heavy minutes. He is playing well but has nobody behind him and can get worn down by heavier guys down low. They started the year playing a 9 man rotation. The two post players as mentioned are gone now and a wing as seems to have lost his spot so down to a 7 man (added Banks) rotation. They went from wearing people down with depth to getting worn out because of lack of depth.

ETSU plays almost all zone, a few different stlyes of zone but little man to man.

To keep it close ETSU must hit the 3's and keep the turnovers down. Wilson is streaky and must be on his game. Riley is the key as mentioned, but can sometimes play out of control. Rembert is our best shooter and has a quick release and sweet shot. If our "big 3" can be consistent, we keep it competitive but we still lose by 10 or so IMO (ETSU just has no inside offense or defense to speak of). If they are not on their game it will get ugly and it will be a TBA blowout.

I think it will be close. Vols will not blowout ETSU, or anyone else.

We will play an entire game of Zone Defense against the best Zone Busters in the country.

We will still win, if their 3 percentages aren't astronomical.

They actually ranked 14th in the country in 3pt%, so that bolded statement is definitely not accurate.

If you read his whole post you would see his point was when you consider ALL factors not just team percentage there is an argument to be made.

I read the whole post, but when you use the phrase "best overall 3pt shooting team in the country" that's false.

Correct, the only team in the country with 3 players averaging 42% combined, quite miraculous in my book. This was being set up as if we lost our 3 point defense was terrible when it will actually be because ETSU's 3 point offense is the best in the nation!

Find me another team where 3 players average 42% combined. Save you the trouble you can't. Thus why I say they are the best in the country even though their team % just has them ranked 14th.
