In 2006, South Carolina was a decent team that went into a bad stretch after we opened up SEC play by winning at their house. They ended up winning the NIT. And, it's hard to beat a team 3 teams, which is what we were trying to do that day. They ended up beating UK and then losing to UF by just 2 in the final.
As for last year, LSU has just plain been a bad matchup for us the past few years because of their length. Last year, they had Final Four talent but underachieved their way into a first-round game with us. So, losing the last 2 years wasn't that bad, given the opposition and circumstances.
This year, no excuses. We have the best team. We need to overcome history by winning the first game. Then, we either get an Arkansas team that will try to run with us or a Vandy team playing its third game in as many days, and the game won't be in Memorial Gym. The final-probably against MSU or UK, will be very tough. MSU poses matchup issues inside. UK would slow us down, and we'd be playing under a big blue mist.
I think we can win it all though.
