Next year's schedule, in no particular order, but close enough to how it'll look:

vs Western Kentucky
At Oregon
At Florida
Vs South Alabama
Vs SEC West opponent (auburn? A&m? Miss st?)
Vs Georgia
At Alabama
Vs South Carolina
Vs Random Homecoming opponent
At Mizzou
Vs Vandy
At Kentucky

I see anywhere from 6-7 wins.

Do we really want to throw a new coach under the bus with this schedule? Could "Almighty Gruden" leave his job--where he sits in a chair telling Andrew Luck to throw to the FB instead of the out route for millions of dollars--to come to UT--recruit, train, and coach kids up--and improve us with this schedule?

Discussion?...

Let's just dream that you get a coach to come in here and convince some of these kids to not go to the draft and stay for the special year at UT that they were promised. We have the talent, you add a little more this year. They go out and beat Oregon or Florida and all bets are off. heck, if they somehow managed to win both of those highly improbably games then the sky is the limit.

Let's be realistic and say that this guy is like most coaches and get's lucky every once in a while and can knock off an SEC team who is ranked....then we're still better off than we are with DD.

Assuming we hire Gruden and an allstar staff. We'll have a Senior QB in Tyler Bray, Hunter may go, but I think Patterson stays. Rajion neal and potentially Derrick green. And a senior O-line. Offensively we'll be pretty damn good.

Defensively we return everyone except Lathers and Waggoner. With Gruden coaching this team I see 9 or 10 wins.

We need continuity moving forward to have any hope for success in the future. A fourth head coach in six years would be detrimental to recruiting in the future no matter who we bring in to replace Dooley. Our major recruits Derrick Green, Vonn Bell, Mackensie Alexander, etc. will cut and run if there's no sign of continuity at UT. And remember, we're still implementing a 3-4 defensive scheme which takes 2 years to set up properly. Give 'em at least another year. If he can't get it going in four years, then yeah, consider a new coach, but good luck getting Gruden to leave his cushy ESPN job where he's already makin fat stacks of cash for almost nothing.

Convincing the players to stay for their senior season works out well. For instance, ask Foster (1) how much the fans appreciated his staying (2) Ask him if his NFL stock rose or fell between his junior and senior season?
(3) Ask Jason Allen how close he came breaking his hip in the game against Georgia and ruining his NFL chances.
Jason Allen missed three games due to a hip injury. He is lucky that the injury were not more severe and harmed his draft status.

I think it's possible to argue that having a coach forever on the hot seat is more detrimental to recruiting than starting over with someone who is likely to at least be in place for 3 years, especially someone with a better resume. I'm not arguing for a change. I'm just saying the recruiting defense probably cuts both ways.

As far as Gruden goes, people should be allowed to have their fantasies. I don't see Jon coming out of the booth to go up against Saban, Miles, Richt, Spurrier, Muschamp, etc. but when all hope is lost people need the imaginary hero that shows up when the clouds are the heaviest, the night is the darkest, a hero that slays the villans and leads us in campfire singalongs as the stars retake their position in the firmament, restoring all the majestic glory that is VolNation Heaven.

Unfortunately, we are not getting those major recruits. Recruits don't want to join a losing team with a coach on a boiling hot seat.

Think things are bad now....wait until NEXT SEASON when Hunter and CP bolt for the NFL. Then we'll be terrible on both sides of the ball.

if you bring in a new coach,i don't care who it is they're not going to have a good year.new off,new def,a completely different staff.it would take a year to get the players to buy in.we would also likely lose more than half the class coming in and we would more than prob.lose 10 to 15 players that are already here.then we're starting all over again.

Ah. In other words, the old "When things are bad, it's best to do nothing whatsoever and hope they get better" argument.

If Dools is still our coach, 5 wins. Hunter and CP are gone. CP is talented and people see that, he'll probably be a 2nd round pick, maybe late 1st. Only TB will stay, because he hasn't proven that he's ready.

Potential to start out 0-3 is scary... hate to say it but I don't think we will have a top 25 football team for at least another 3 years. I'll be an old man by then :(
