Next gen console power (PS5 and Xbox Series X)

Sony will probably limit supply of the all digital console for a while to drive up sales of the sku that they will actually make some money on. They have to be in the red on the all digital sku. Now way the disk drive they manufacture cuts $100 out of the cost.
They will actually make more money on the digital versions. A digital only machine where the only games you can buy for it are at your online marketplace is like a money tree for them.

And it doesn't play used games. I'm surprised it's not going to be in bigger supply.

If you guys haven't done it yet, you have GOT to see the new Miles Mirales and Demon's Souls trailers in full 4K. They look phenomenal! Especially Demon's Souls at 60fps (Miles Mirales has a 60fps mode too). These will be the first two games I play on PS5.

Demon's Souls remake is the most impressive next-gen game yet IMO. Makes me practically salivate for a PS5 Bloodborne sequel!

Well target did another round earlier, then Walmart at 8. Walmart was out within 2 minutes. Actually got one with disc. Lucky day 😎

Can someone explain the differences in the Xbox consoles? I’ve read the reviews but I’m ignorant when it comes to that kind of stuff. Is the Series X worth the extra $200?

Yeah it's just the 299 one is quite a bit weaker if you care about FPS and graphics. I think Series X would be worth the extra 200 for longevity if you can afford it.

Whereas the PS5 digital only is the exact same specs as the disk PS5. So if you don't care about having the option of playing physical media, that's an absolute steal imo. However, you would be locked into the PSN store and those games tend to take a good while before you can get good deals on them, that's why they can probably sell it for so cheap. They know you're locked into their overpriced store at times.

Lol. I got a disk one but obviously a ton of the digital sold since they also sold out. Not sure how much longer Gamestop will be a thing

I don't think I've been to one in over 2 years at least. I used to go all the time and get used games but I buy more digital now. They also ticked me off when they changed how they did their points system and started automatically cashing in my points for $5 gift certificates and it wouldn't let me change. So I just started losing points I had built up.

My guess within 2 years all the physical stores will probably be gone and it will try to live on as an online store only. But even then I don't see why it will be needed.

Coming from the PC world, my hope is that there will eventually be more competition in the digital market for consoles. Between Steam, Epic, Origin, and a few others I've gotten so many games for free or deeply discounted. Not that I always want something for nothing, but I've been able to try a ton of stuff that I normally would have never paid full price for, or considered at all. If I buy a game for XBOX or PS it's pretty much gotta be a slam dunk guarantee that I'll enjoy it.

Eh, GameStop will stick around for another decade or so. I firmly believe that digital consoles will end up outselling their optical drive counterparts this generation, possibly with all slim variants being digital only, but GameStop will cling to life so long as they can sell contemporary preowned games (and, of course, have new physical inventory to sell as well).

When the 10th generation of consoles rolls around with (presumably) no physical media, GameStop will either have to pull a rabbit out of their hat or close because you can’t last long as a national chain selling outdated games and Funko figures.

On a separate note, I’m not holding out a lot of hope that I’ll luck into a PS5 preorder at this point but maybe I’ll stumble across one a few months after it releases. I don’t find any of the launch titles to be particularly appealing, but the PS+ Collection is intriguing and I’m a sucker for a possible new Hulu/Netflix/etc. interface.

@TrumpedUpVol That joint is already starting to look more like a KB Toys than a dedicated video game store. I agree they don't have a lot of life left and they will probably be unrecognizable by the time they close up shop.

Got a question about Xbox live? I know awhile back there were rumors that Microsoft was going to scrap the pay to play multiplayer model and go to free online like Sony but haven't heard anything about that in a long time. Then I heard that online was going to be incorporated with the games pass only? Anyone heard anything on this?
