Me neither I’m 40 years old now married and work full time I used to have time to play two consoles not anymore or the money. I barely have time for one console. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t MS have the most exclusives on the original Xbox

Compared to PS2's library?? Uh no! Not even close!

More? No. Better exclusives? Yes, and they completely dominated the online space in that era for consoles. The gap between the Xbox and ps2 graphically was wide too. But that was partially due to being later to market. Ironically being earlier to market is why the PS2 beat them. Microsoft picked up a ton of stream headed into the 360 though. The whole red ring of death thing cost them that generation. Well that and the Wii coming completely out of left field.

PS2 exclusives crushed Xbox!

MGS3
Okami
God of War I-II
Jak and Daxter series
Ratchet and Clank
Sly Cooper
Gran Turismo 3 and 4
Kingdom Hearts
FFX
Shadow of the Colossus
Ico

Xbox was just a weak PC that happened to play Halo and Ninja Gaiden, in addition to a bunch of PS2/PC games, for most of its lifespan. It's why Microsoft was so quick to abandon it for the 360. It only had a 4-year lifespan.

Granted, Xbox's lineup looks more impressive if you were never a PC gamer and could only experience games like Half-Life 2, Fable, KOTOR, etc., on it.

I was a pc gamer for the entire ps1 generation. Also, you left out Morrowind, Jade Empire, Odd World Strangers Wrath, Jet Set Radio Future, Dead or Alive 3, Halo 2, Phyconaughts and Forenza. I actually had a ps2 during generation. One of my roommates had the Xbox. SOTC is an all time favorite for me. But the Xbox dominated the second half of that gen. The cultural/industry impact of Halo on xbox live was huge.

Only you hardcore nerds care about these obscure exclusives. As long as Xbox adds the show, that is all I’ll ever need.

You know one thing no one is talking about with the built in microphone on the Dualsense is the huge potential of developers using it as an actual game mechanic. Imagine playing an RPG where during a battle you can "speak" a specific summon by name and your character uses it on screen! Or how about a SOCOM game where you could command a whole squadron by speaking out specific instructions. Or what about Madden? What if you could literally "call" the audible at the line of scrimmage? That would be awesome and PS5 would be the only platform that could add this!

Made me think of this.

Yes because I'm SURE voice capabilities haven't improved exponentially since then. Plus in an age of SIRI and Alexa, people I think would be more receptive to the idea.
I could see it being helpful for voice chat in a pinch, but I don't see in-game chat commands as something that would be appealing to most. Maybe I'm wrong.

You don't see the appeal to COD players being able to yell "teabag teabag teabag" and see it happen onscreen?

Seriously though the only thing I can think of off the top of my head might be some very thorough rpgs where voice command might simplify gameplay using a controller.

I guess, if you aren’t using chat to communicate with teammates, because that would be annoying.

Xbox was a puddle in the ocean that was PS2 sales. PS2 is the best selling console of all time. 155 million units. Xbox sold 24 million. They aren't even comparable.

And Morrowind and Jade Empire were on PC so they don't count. Psychonauts was on PS2. Dead or Alive is canceled out by Tekken series. The other games weren't system sellers by any means. Forza was too little too late, series didn't hit its stride until Xbox 360.

Original Xbox was Halo, cross-platform games, and some PC ports. Just for record I'm not anti-MS or Xbox at all. I had a 360 instead of a PS3 during that generation, and it's actually one of my favorite consoles of all time. The library was amazing and it ran most games better than PS3. Sony's exclusives also didn't appeal to me as much during that generation.

I disagree with your assessment regarding the PS2/Xbox generation, but you left out what IMO is still one of the greatest RPG's of all time in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic!

Also, Forza sucked on the OG Xbox. That series didn't hit its stride until the 360 era. Rallisport 1 & 2 and Project Gotham Racing were way better racers at that time.

I loved and still have my ps2. It won the generation by a mile. But the original xbox changed the rules. The fact that it had those pc ports was unheard of at the time. And, it made online gaming and a built in hard drive industry standards for the consoles. I preferred ps2 then and still do. But the Xbox's influence is undeniable.

Also, Dead or Alive was far better than Tekken. Heck, Tekken isn't even the best fighting game from Namco. I'll never get why people have such a soft spot for it.

The post I was qouting mentioned KOTOR. My point was just that the Xbox had more good exclusives than he said.

Gotcha. They had a few good to decent titles but let's be honest, Halo is what drove that bus. You take Halo away and we are probably not even talking about Xbox in 2020.

No argument there. I don't much care for Halo actually. There were much better FPSs. But the online mechanic had never been done like that on console.

Meh, I was gaming online with my Dreamcast well before the Xbox came out." Online was going to happen on console regardless of whether Xbox came along or not. I will however give them credit for having the foresight of including broadband built in well before it was the standard for internet connection.

Ah the Dreamcast. My first console was from Sega back in the day. It's to bad it didn't do better. It's worth noting how much Microsoft stole from it. Like the 360 it suffered from a terrible failure rate though. House of the Dead 2 killed mine.

Online gaming was going to happen. But the fact remains the Original Xbox is the one actually made it happen. Saying otherwise I'd like saying the PS1 shouldn't get credit for the move from 2d side scrolling games to modern "3d" games.

So true. Never buy a console at launch.

Wait 6 months for the hardware fixes, better game library, and inevitable price cut.

Of course, you're not wrong and anyone who decides to wait is without question doing the smart, pragmatic thing.

I guess for me, the reason I love getting consoles at launch is it's just fun being a part of it. To be a part of that early conversation and sharing feedback/impressions/discoveries, etc with the other early adopters. Major console launches only come around every 5-7 years and I can tell you at my age, it's one of the very few things that comes close to capturing that "Christmas morning" excitement anymore. For me, that makes it absolutely worth the potential drawbacks!

I totally get it. I would consider buying at launch if there’s a new game I absolutely must play but those are few and far between these days.

I'm so far behind on playing the must have games that by the time I get to the playing them, I can get the game of the year additions with all the dlc for 20 bucks.

I just recently started GTA V.
