Yes we are capable of making a Final Four run and possibly a NC. We lost Bradshaw, but gained J.P. Prince, Tyler Smith. Cameron Tatum, and Brian Williams.

We only lost one player to graduation, and we've picked up two transfers; Prince from Arizona, and Tyler Smith from Iowa.

This bball season really should be exciting. Expectations are high for the first time since the late 90s. There was one year, and I think it was 00-01 that we were rannked as high as #3 in the AP poll. Even with that success the fan base was not behind the team as they are now, thanks to Pearl :dance2:

So, Rock Chalk, how do you think the Hawks will do this year? The Big 12 is going to be down a bit I think with Durrant and Acie Law leaving and the guys from KState and OSU leaving. Not saying it ahould be cakewalk for KU but the only loss was Julian (big loss though). I'm going to try and get tickets for the KU-Mizzou game this year.... any ideas on how.

That's a function of the fact that all fans realize that rankings are utterly irrelevant. Its how you do in the NCAA tournament that matters. And UT is poised to make a deep run, no doubt about it.

Obviously, a lot depends on injuries and of course your tourney draw at the time, but I would think that the UT fans and the team itself would be disappointed at anything short of an Elite Eight appearance. Not making the Sweet 16 would be downright failure.

I'm not ready to annoint you a Final Four team quite yet, but UT would definitely be on the list of the ten teams with the best chance to make it.

I totally agree with you. Until the Vols prove they can make that deep run then they can't be considered NC material. I do think the talent is there to make that run, as was in 00-01, it is what is done with that talent that will make the difference.

And I really, really hope we don't cross paths with Kansas.... for personal reasons. I don't want to test my marriage 7 months into it :)

As Florida struggled up through 2005 for about 6 or 7 years of first or second round exits, I became of the opinion that there is in place some sort of dues-paying hurdle in the tournament. I mean, how often do you see a school repeatedly and suddenly make strong runs? Always seemed like you had to build some momentum, have a good team that hits a brick wall for awhile, and then the "tournament Gods" would let you get to the Final Four.

Always figured UF was just paying its dues and then got through the door.

But now I think maybe I was just making excuses for the team struggling once it got to the tournament year in and year out. It will be interesting to see how UT handles the pressure of expectations this year. Pearl seems aware of how easy it is to get caught up in the hype and also that the tournament will define UT's season this year. Getting in is not going to be good enough, so I look for him to emphasize endurance and the long haul this year.
