Next 4 games could decide the season

I think the we beat Vanderbilt tonight. As many of us know, Vanderbilt is down to 7 scholarship players after losing their leading scorer Eric McClellan. Rod Odom is their leading scorer/player/rebounder whose been playing 38+ minutes a game; just stick Richardson on Odom. We need to come into tonight's game with a mindset to stop the 3 and if we can't - we'll be in trouble. Vanderbilt's back court isn't too impressive. They've got 7-footer Luke Kornet who's actually a decent shot blocker, but isn't a threat on the boards. We don't need to worry about their inside game as much, they don't have the size or skill to get good looks down low. I think we will dominate them with our post.

Agree with you Krager about the 3 point shot, that's the great equalizer for an under matched team like Vandy, especially at home. They start drilling 3s, we start settling for 3s and missing, and we could very well end up like Missouri did.

I don't expect an easy game, but I would love an Alabama repeat.

I think even if they do start hitting 3s, we still need to shoot high percentage shots (mid range, inside looks, etc). I don't want to see a shootout, I'd rather see us stick to an offensive game plan instead of just chucking up 3s. We'd have a better chance to just wear em out with higher percentage shots. JMO.

Having DT start to emerge as a creator/facilitator should keep them from getting stuck in 3 mode. And Stokes and Maymon seem to realize the more they move without the ball, the more likely they will find space and DT WILL get them the ball.

It all starts with defensive intensity tho. Start strong there and I like what this team appears to be turning into.

Get Stokes and Richardson going early. McRae will score when he wants, but those two are big early on. Richardson hit those two threes against Bama and played like a completely different player.

Yeah definitely want to get J Rich some confidence on the road. Sometimes he seems like a different player at home and away. We need the at home J Rich.

Odom is the main threat for scoring, but Damien Jones is the 7 foot freshman in the middle that plays more then Kornet. Kornet comes off the bench and no one expects much from him this year as he is still only a 17 year old true freshman (in which, they were hoping to RS), but Jones will be a beast for the next few years. Vanderbilt's defensive has been the main reason they are staying in games and Stallings has ran more zone this year than ususal, and expect him to do this against TN and see if they can shoot their way out of it. The downside (as in years past) rebounding is the Achilles heel for Vanderbilt and UT seems to dominant on the glass. Both teams have been playing good ball for the past 2 weeks, and it will be interesting to see if Vanderbilt can keep their legs throughout the season as 3 of the players are now playing upwards of 35 minutes a game.

Sucks it isn't on TV unless you guys know something I don't.

The last 2 games we've won going away because we've shot well from 3. If we struggle from the 3 tonight, I think it'll be a grind it out type game in the 50-60's. Vandy has shut McRae down for the most part every time they've played against UT. That's their goal again according to an article in the Tennessean. Other guys are going to have to step up if McRae is throttled or having a bad night.

If we struggle from 3, it will be a grind-it-out game. I like our chances with a healthy rebounding margin though. I think we see a relatively similar game plan that we ran vs Bama

Back to the same ole same ole CM coached team
let the only players on Vandy that could beat us do so
Our post players got manhandled and Jordan couldn't make a shot when it counted and despite Vandy giving us a golden opportunity to steal the game at the end by missed FTs we couldn't do it

When making the NCAA tournament is your ultimate goal performances like this happen every 2nd or 3rd game. The NCAA tournament is something that comes easily to a team competing for SEC championships. This team should have Championship and final four aspirations, instead they are cool with losing to Vandy because they know they still have a shot at the NCAA tournament.

They for sure have to do something with Mizzou and UF now or its back to the NIT.

Yea I agree. I heard an SEC spokes person talking about our chances, and he was very proVol by the way, and he made it pretty clear that he felt we'd be in trouble if we lost more then 2 more games at this point. Florida is a loss no matter what, so that leaves Mizzu now that we must beat. It's possible, actually with this team anything is possible, but most people I know simply don't care at this point. The inconsistent play has really turned fans away at this point. It sucks, but it's life. As I said early, we are going to live or die by Stokes' ability to score points around the paint. Him playing bad from the start really puts this team in a bind.
